NWR; Your opinions please (kinda long)

I have verizon wireless as well as verizon FIOS (cable and internet). We recently moved and have had nothing but trouble changing over our cable to our new address. We got charged for a bunch of crap they said we wouldnt be charged for. (We already complained and got it taken off our bill). When we called to complain we mentioned to them we wanted to have our cable/internet and cell phone put on the same bill. They said sure, no problem. Fast forward to the other day when they send us a bill for $340. Essentially they didn't bill us from the time I called to complain til now. Included on the bill was about 2 months of cell phone bills, and 3 months of cable/internet. Granted, we knew that we hadn't paid a cell or cable/internet bill for awhile, but still, it was their fault for not billing us. The bill is correct, and what we owe is right. My question is, what would you do in this situation...would you call up and b*tch about it? If you did, what approach would you take. I hate verizon with a passion so I am trying to get something free out of them, because they've screwed us royally in the past. Who do you think is at fault here....us for not inquiring about the fact we didn't get a bill for a couple months, or verizon's for not sending us one?

  • ugh as much as I hate to say it, I think this is kind of your responsibility. If my CC bill didnt show up when it was due, I for sure would call and inquire about it.
  • Granted, we knew that we hadn't paid a cell or cable/internet bill for awhile, but still, it was their fault for not billing us. You knew you had a bill to pay, but because they didn't send you the bill you didn't pay it? That's not their fault. Sure, they should have sent the bill, but you know it needs to be paid. You should have called to find out how much and pay it on time.
  • Both you and verizon are in teh wrong. I would negotiate away any late fees but pay the rest.
  • I think your screwed and just have to pay it.  I can't see anything you could legitimately argue since you do owe the money and you know you haven't received a bill for the last few months and could have called to ask about it.  That's just me though, I don't see the point in fighting losing battles. If you hate them, why don't you just switch?  There has to be another cable/internet provider you can use.

  • You can try and complain, but this is your fault, unfortunately. Most companies stipulate that bills are due regardless of whether you receive a bill in the mail. As PP said, if you don't get a CC bill in the mail because it is lost or whatever, it is still your responsibility to pay ontime. The same thing would apply here. You might be able to get them to extend the payment time, if paying it all off at once is a problem.
  • You don't pay your bills= there will be consequences. Pretty simple lesson in life.
  • Let me also say that I track my bills online, and none of this activity showed up on my account online either. (I never trust the USPS) so I always have a paper statement come to the house as well as email notifications when a bill needs to be paid. I would agree 100% about the credit card thing, especially since I get my statemtns in the mail, as well as through email, but the experience I've had with verizon is completely different. I've been with them for over a year, and I've never had a bill that was 100% correct. Typically they charge us for movies we didn't order, so we have to call them each and every month to have something removed from our bill. In the past 3 months they've charged us fees to do with moving from one address to another, all of which they initially said were free. And Dani--to answer your que---I would switch, but the other choice is more expensive, the internet sucks, and I am locked into a 2 year contract with Verizon. So I am kind of stuck here...and it sucks.
  • You don't pay your bills= there will be consequences. Pretty simple lesson in life. Wow, thanks for your genius insight. It's pretty hard to pay for a bill that esentially didn't exist for 3 months. Also, I've never been late on a single bill of any sort in my entire life. There are no late fees on this bill, so clearly Verizon knows it was their fault and that they failed to send us a bill for months on end.
  • I'd call them and complain. IF you can ever get to the right department, I bet they'll give you a credit for some portion on your next bill. We also have FIOS and while I'm very happy with the product, the company is run horribly. We've had it since February and every single one of our bills has been wrong too. For a while I was calling them almost every day with various problems--so often that it became a running joke with DH that I was making "my daily phone call to Verizon." We've gotten a few credits from them for various issues we've had.
  • Ten--I couldn't agree with you more. I like my cable and the internet speed is awesome, but I think their billing department is a bunch of morons. Over the past year we've been charged for about 15 movies we didn't order (unless our dog is at home watching porno when we're at work). And that's the reason why I won't switch--I like the product. If this would have been a isolated incident I wouldn't be mad and I would just pay the bill. But this is just getting ridiculous. They tried charging us for our modem..like $250, when they said it was going to be free.
  • So you check your online statement with them and they just decided to bill you now?  Just out of curiosity can you prove it?If you can, I'd definitely make a phone call.
