Wedding dress shopping + Spanx?

I'm going gown shopping next week, and am thinking I want to wear Spanx to try on dresses so I look "better" in them. Will I be embarrased? Did any of you wear them while trying on dresses?I know I sound lame, but I'm not one to change in front of people I already know as it is, so it's going to be weird for me to have some sales lady see me in a "body shaper" unless they don't help with the gowns as much as I imagine they do.

I think it depends greatly on where you go.  When I worked in a bridal store, we helped brides get the dresses on and off.  It was easier in the long run.  In the time that I was there I saw a whole lot of full-on boobage and all sorts of other things I wished I hadn't.  If you want to wear spanx, at least you'll be fully covered, and have a better idea of how a gown will fit you.  Also, go for a strapless bra or longline if you have one.  Your life will be easier.

I basically stood in my underwear on a pedastol in the middle of a room.  The ladies helped me get into and out of all the dresses.  I agree though, I'm sure they've seen it all!

I'd say wear it or a longline bra.  Having proper undergarments will help you get a better idea of how a dress will look on you.

Might be a good idea.  I wore rainbow underwear and you could most definitely see them in some of the dresses.  Live and learn.

Do you already have the spanx, or do you need to buy them?  Because if it's the latter and you go to a proper lingerie store, the sales lady will probably come in while you put on the spanx, so be prepared!! But if she does, at least you'll feel better about the sales lady at the dress shop

M stood on a small round platform in just her underpants while the salon assistants put dresses on her and off her.brat had no modestly at all!

FYI, Spanx are on sale at Nordstrom (in store and on the web) until August 3rd!

My saleslady put the dresses on me and I was so glad I was wearing a full coverage strapless dress w/built in bra style shaper. It's a lot less awkward that way

I went to one shop where the lady actually came in while I undressed, and had me take off my bra so she could put me into their corset- which was totally bizarre. Anyway, that day I was wearing stockings, which helped make me feel more 'covered' even though I was essentially standing there in my undies. I doubt the sales assistant will be surprised if you go in Spanx, as I'm sure a lot of girls do that for their fittings anyway.
