food brands

Seeing that food is the topic of conversation today....and something made me think of this last night...what food brands are you particular about?I only buy Kraft Ranch, Good Host Iced Tea, French's Mustard, and Epicure Cocoa. I'm anal about those things...along with Heinz Ketchup and Club House Seasonings.

  • i prefer Cabot for Cheddar and Butter to all other brands.Hood for MilkHeinz for KetchupAnd while its not food, i'll only wipe my arse with Charmin.
  • My other biggie is Kikkoman Soy Sauce (sp?).

  • Kraft Cheese Singles. I forgot about those. Country Crock tub margarine, and I like Land O'Lakes stick butter.
  • Morning Star, Kroger Brand Natural Peanut Butter, Tony Chachere, Emeral Mixed Nuts, Smart Balance Butter, Kraft Mayo

  • Only two things, really. Heinz Ketchup (the others seem too watery or something), and Silk soy milk.
  • I buy name brand soda, like Diet Coke and Diet Dr. Pepper, Ragu Traditional spaghetti sauce, Arnold Sandwich Thins, Fage Greek Yogurt, Hebrew National kosher hotdogs, Jimmy Dean sausage, Tropicana OJ and Lean Cuisine.
  • This has led to some grocery store meltdown in my marriage. His mom bought one brand, mine bought another, and we have a hard time changing. It's hilarious.

  • Hmmm, nothing particular comes to mind, I just don't buy any of the super generic brands (Value Time etc).  And I try to go organic with as much as I can. Now that it's summer and farmer's market time, I try to buy as much as I can local grown. Oh I am a stickler for Jif peanut butter though.

  • The only thing I'm particluar about is mayo - it has to be Miracle Whip. Miracle whip is not mayo.  It's considered a dressing.  I only use miracle whip for things like potato and macaroni salad and dips.  It has a zing to it... but for sammiches it's gotta be hellman's mayo.

  • fishy, we've had to deal with a bit of this but I usually win. His mom also never made him eat vegetables, so sometimes I judge her parenting skills. He now eats several things he used to "hate". Creamed corn, for example. He JUST figured out it tasted the same as corn on the cob, despite me telling him this for six months. My kids will try everything before deciding, dammit. Even the weird stuff.
  • The mayo debate is pretty heated between my stepmom and I. She maintains that this GROSS brand called Duke's is the way to go (I think it's a Southern thing?) and I fight for Hellman's. When I go to visit her and my dad, she gets Hellman's packets for me as a joke, and buys an industrial sized jar of the other stuff. I doubt they could ever eat that much, but it's still pretty funny.
  • If we were ever to have children they would have to eat everything.  They will starve otherwise.  Mike's parents made him try everything once.  As a result the man only dislikes two things.  Cilantro and scrambled eggs.

  • I agree Mandy (about the miracle whip). I don't particularly care for whipped dressing. I love me some real Mayo (brand doesn't matter actually). I also agree with whoever said that some generic brands are better than big names. This is true a lot of the time. Except with the items I mentioned above. I prefer safeway or co-op brand cola. I don't like Coke, and I'm not too fond of Pepsi...but I love me some "Go2 Cola".

  • Ugh, the girls at work use miracle whip. I love me some Hellmans Mayo. Other things; Swiss Miss Hot cocoa, Hershey Chocolate Syrup, Green Giant peas and green bean, Nalley Chili (which I can never find anymore) Kraft Mac n cheese, Prego spaghetti Sauce, Jif peanut butter, Poptarts brand poptarts...
  • I also agree with whoever said that some generic brands are better than big names.Totally.  FI loves Tostito's salsa, but not me.  It's gotta be Our Compliments from Sobeyes for me.As for the mayo, call me ignorant because I didn't know that Miracle Whip isn't really mayo.  I like the zip - I find that Hellmans is too bland for my tastes.  You learn something everyday.
  • Heinz is the only Ketchup I will use and Viva (Kleenex)  paper towels - they are the best - yes, I know, not a food.  Everything else is pretty much up for grabs.I will not touch a generic pasta sauce though.  I like Classico, Barilla or Bertolli  I feel like I'm slumming if I pick up Hunts or Ragu.
