Addressing Invitations

If you are addressing an invitation to an unmarried couple, thus writing both names out, does it matter if the man or woman's name goes first?  TIA

Re: Addressing Invitations

  • The woman's name should go first, and put them on separate lines.

  • Traditionally the woman's name goes first. That's not, however, the way we did it: We put the first name of the person we were "really" inviting. So, for example, if we invited my best female friend and her boyfriend, we put her name first; my male cousin and his girlfriend, we put his name first. If we were friends with both parts of the couple, we put the woman first. I used the same rule for gay couples (whoever we knew better), although some people do that in alphabetical order.
  • the woman's name goes first, man's name below it.  no "and" as others said. as for gay couples, i'd just go with alphabetical order, applying the "and" rule accordingly.
