nwr jillian michaels

which is the best video to get?  do i have to have free weights and stuff at home in order to do this or is it mostly a cardio work out with sit ups and stuff?

Re: nwr jillian michaels

  • I bought the Shred.  You only need hand weights for that one.  It's a great work out but I have no self-motivation so I only did it 2 or 3 times.  :/

  • I second the shred!

  • I like The Shred as well as Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism. For The Shred you need light weights (2 - 5 lbs would work) and a mat. For the other you just need a mat. If you're doing it on carpet you may not even want/need a mat. I found my weights for really cheap at Target.
  • 30 day Shred. It has three different levels and the first level totally kicks your butt. I think you only need free weights.
  • Yeah, the 30-day Shred is really good.  As long as you have hand weights (and a mat if you have a hard floor), you'll be good to go.
  • i'm just so frustrated with how i look.  i have packed on 40 pounds in 10 years, and im having all sorts of self esteem issues, not to mention i get winded when i walk up stairs and none of my clothes fit.  i lost 10 pounds with weight watchers last year, but didnt stick to it becuase i plateaued after the 10 pound loss and got frustrated that i couldnt lose more.
  • Calypso--the more cardio you do, the better. Any exercise will help, and you need the weight training to tone. But if you can add additional cardio--walking, biking etc that will help. I am fortunate to live close enough to walk or bike to work, and it's a 30 minute walk each way (I walk at a brisk pace).  I try to not even count my walks as a workout. If I walk home, I try to change the minute I walk in the door and boot up a dvd, and do a 20-40 minute workout. I consider the walk my warmup.

  • Cubs - I think she's talking about No More Trouble Zones. It's a 40 min. circuit workout.
  • Calypso, I totally understand what you're saying. I wish I had the answer, but I haven't found it for myself yet.  I've tried WW twice and quit both times.  I've tried workout tapes, gym memberships, diets, I just don't stick with anything.  The only thing that I know worked for me years ago was when I was going to pilates and an arms and abs class at a small local gym.  So I found a place here that has $5 community pilates and yoga classes that you don't need a membership to attend.  I'm going to my first class this week.  I'm hoping it will at least jump start me into feeling better, toning up, and eating better.  We'll see.

  • maya--I think you are right on the title. my boss at my Saturday job told me about it. She got me hooked on the Shred. She has been doing Level 3 of the Shred for over a year and she said this new one kicked her a$$, and she was really sore. She got the other one too that is more cardio but didn't care for it. If she doesn't want it, I will offer to buy it from her--more cardio is better for me with my high blood pressure.

  • Do you have a Wii Fit? She has the Fitness Ultimatum for Wii/Wii Fit. It's great!
  • Absolutely the 30 day shred.  It has kicked my butt.  I am too poor/cheap (you choose the adjective) to buy weights so I fill 2 nalgene bottles with water and use those.  I don't use a mat either.  I got my sister and her husband hooked on the thing too.  I don't do it everyday and I've seen such a difference.  I was actually excited to wear a bikini last week.
  • danie, seriously!  i've tried everything short of water and ex-lax. i guess i'll try the shred.  i'm just doubtful becuase i belonged to a gym for a year, went religiously, and got fatter.  i even asked my doctor to test me for a thyroid problem which she did, and i dont have one.  all she said was "more cardio". no, i dont have a wii.  i found 30 day shred on amazon.  its less than $10, might as well get it.
  • We bought her Making the Cut book.  I did it 4 times, cried my way through each, and haven't been back to the gym since.  I thought it should be enough that I was doing 50 push-ups - having to lift one leg up and back to touch the opposite shoulder while pushing-up was just evil and unnecessary. But I'm the only person I know who doesn't love the book so...

I like the shred too. You only need to buy hand weights for it and maybe a mat if you don't have carpeted flooring, but it's quick and I feel like it's a good workout. It's a good mix of the weights and cardio.
  • Calypso,If you have Comcast Cable you have access to Exercise TV On Demand. I believe it has the whole Jillian Michaels series. The best part, of course, is that it is free. They also have Yoga, Pilates, strength training prgrams, etc. It is the perfect thing for someone who wants to work out at home. HTH!P.S. I think Verizon Cable has something similar.
  • ooh!  we do have comcast.  i'll check that out tonight!  thanks for the tip!!!
  • found it last night on comcast!
