Mr. Wong!

was absolutely a treat to listen to!! I took four pages of notes, and just learned so much. Like the differences between rules and procedures. How you should only have 5 rules but as many procedures as you want. Procedures should never have rewards or punishments, just keep rehearsing it til they do it. And about the teacher who's kindergardeners saved her life. She had gestational diabetes, so she taught her kids what to do if she "fell asleep" and the kids couldn't wake her up. And one day it happened, and they knew exactly what to do and called 911, got the nurse, got a teacher, and went and sat on the rug to "watch over" her until help arrived. I could go on and on! :) It was truly an awesome lecture!!

  • He is amazing.  One of my courses used "The First Day of School" as the text book.  I hope I can see him again.  Since this year I am the teacher from the get go I will be using more of his procedures for my classroom.
  • Oh, the book, that reminds me! www.harrywong.com You can buy his book at a discounted price right now ($20 + shipping) with the code DCS. I don't know if that's any better than other sources, but the newest edition is the 4th, so that's what's up for sale. MrsB, I'm just really excited :) He was great.

  • And by his book, I mean the first days of school, because he has others. TLJ, I plan on buying it and using it from the get go, even if I only get to teach Jan-May.

  • I'm very interested in his books...is it worth it to get one even though I am still in school? Which one do you all recommend?
  • Cubs, I'd definitely suggest the First Days of School, it's got a lot of really valuable information. And since I'm assuming you'll do some in-class experience, this will help you get prepared to handle the class.

  • Awesome, thanks guys! I'll check his books out!
  • Yeah, everyone there was pretty impressed except for the one heifer who sat next to me. The whole time she kept mumbling to the woman next to her that his stuff isn't relative because he hasn't been in the classroom in so long. Whatever!
