I have an identity!!

Background: I've had issues changing my name.  Apparently in MO the license bureau can't change your middle name to your maiden name w/o a passport or court order.  So I waited forever and paid for a new passport.Well it came on Saturday, and I went yesterday to finally get my new drivers license.  I finally have only one identity!! For a month and a half I've had different names everywhere, and now everything is the same. I did the bank, insurance, electric account, lease, etc.  I even got a new library card! woo hoo :)Just to make me feel better, anyone else have issues changing their name?

Re: I have an identity!!

  • I work for the government and the only place I've had any problem is here, in the computer system. It's like I'm a completely different person (to the computer) or something.
  • that's weird.  your marriage license whihc indicates "name after marriage" wasnt considered a court order/legal doc? anwyay, glad it all worked out!
  •  it took me longer to drive to the DMV than it did to change my name. I was shocked about how little time it took

oh yeah, cubs did you post about that before? Someone did, and thanks to you guys, I remembered to specifically ask for new cards, so they're in the mail :)  But the lady acted like if I hadn't reminded her I wouldn't have gotten new cards, so thanks for the heads up!

  • Ugh, I gave you my Missouri name change saga before so I certainly understand! Glad you're set across the board with the new name!
  • The bank where I have my savings account and IRA are being real douchey.  I've had the savings account since before I was married, and opened the IRA after I was married under my married name. When I went to set up online banking for the IRA, it wouldn't let me.  When I called, they said it was because I had 2 different accounts under 2 different names.  Funny, it wasn't a problem when I mailed you a check for $5,000 to set up my IRA, but now that I want access to my money, it is?  All my other banks and credit cards, all I had to do was show them my new drivers license.  This bank wants my marriage certificate and a copy of my drivers license.  a month after I sent that, they finally sent me a signature card to sign.  That was 3 weeks ago, and I still can't access my IRA.
  • Is there even an option of changing your name to Middle Maiden Married and dropping you first name altogether? I hate my first name, always have hated it, don't go by it at all and would love nothing more than to get rid of it altogether.... Does anyone have any idea of whether this is possible? Can I just check my state gov. website regarding the name change and see if it's possible on that website??

heels- that sucks bad.  fnl-- I have no idea.  I'm sure you could do it with a court order, which isnt' that hard to get, but I have no idea about just with a marriage license.  Maybe ask when you go to apply for the license?
