In which order...

Hey Ladies,I am a year and 2 weeks away! We had a longer engagement so I have my reception venue, church, photographer and videographer already booked. Im not sure what I should book next? What order did you guys book things?...TIA for your help!

Re: In which order...

  • I think the DJ/band, the caterer, and the florist are the big ones that you're missing but I think you are actually pretty far ahead of the game for being that far out.  I don't think there is an exact order that needs to be followed, but maybe ask your local how far in advance they booked vendors?  GL!
  • Use the Knot checklist, it's really helpful to keep you on track.Florist and cake baker can be done closer to the wedding, around 6 months, but it wouldn't hurt to start getting pictures and ideas of what you want, along with looking around at vendors to see who you might want to use.

  • I think you need to sit back and have a bottle of wine with your fiance. For real. I think that's the next logical step.

  • I just booked things as I found them and was sure about them. I booked the photog first, then the venue and church, then the caterer and florist. I made sure to find people who were flexible with me changing my mind because I knew I would over the course of planning. The thing I would worry about booking this far out is, the economy sucks right now and some of these vendors may go out of business before your wedding.

I can't remember exactly, but after those vendors I know that we booked DJ, florist, got my dress, ordered BM dresses, decided on cake (baker.)

  • I actually prefer the checklist/timeline on www.weddingwire.com It will give you an idea on where you "should be" in your planning

  • Ditto fische.  Wine is in order! If you're getting married in a church they may require some sort of wedding prep class, and those can run a couple of months.  So I'd book that if necessary. Otherwise, sit back and brainstorm what you want.  There's no need to commit yet.
  • I think you need to sit back and have a bottle of wine with your fiance.Agreed :)Thanks for the advice about the checklist - I forgot that there is more to the Knot then the P&E board and looking at pictures!I thought I was waaaay ahead in even booking the reception venue (which we did just under 2 years out) BUT our hall was almost completely booked up for summer 2010. It was either our date or a long weekend. After that I wanted to get a head start on the other things....
  • I think the other thing that books out well in advance is bands?  If you want one at your reception you may want to start looking in to that/auditioning folks, etc.
  • Not something to book but you could start looking at dresses. Go slow. I got wrapped up and ended up with something Im not in love with but like. Good luck!
