Stolen package mystery?????

Well- unfortunately I think we had a package stolen off our front porch this weekend!  Either that or Fedex is crazy!  Never thought I would actually have to deal with this.  We went out of town for my shower and apparently our first gift from our registry was mailed to us via Fedex and supposedly arrived on Friday.  We didn't think to hold any mail or anything, as we hadn't been getting gifts yet, plus this was Fedex- not USPS.  It sucks too because it is a pot/pan set for well over $200 bucks.  But here is the mysterious part.  The Fedex tag was lying on the front porch when we came hom elast night.  There was a tracking # on it, but no other writing or anything else filled in.  Talked to Fedex today and they (as well as the internet) say it was delivered.  My question is why would we have a door tag left if the package was delivered?  Or do you think someone stole it? Any ideas??? Has anyone ever had this happen?  If it was stolen do you know what we do? Can we do anything about it?  I am not so concerned about the getting the gift as I am aboutt he money that was spent on it.....

  • Do you live in an apartment complex? It's possible your front office might have it.A few years ago a package from Victorias Secret was stolen from my doorstep when we were living in an apartment. They replaced the merchandise and I got a call like 4 months later investigating it... It was weird, because 4 months later how are they going to figure out where the package went? Have you called the store where your registered at to see if they'll replace it?
  • If you think it was stolen, I would change the shipping address to somewhere more secure. If someone knows that you're getting stuff from a registry, they're going to be on the lookout for more things to steal. That totally sucks.

  • Nope I live in a house in typical suburbia. There is a small bush in front of our patio- but probably no completely big enough to cover a big box like that.  we don't really know any of our neighbors really well, so I don't think they would have picked it u for us or anything either.  It is from Sears- haven't called yet- wanted to see what Fedex said first.  Fedex is supposed to call me back, but haven't heard anything in the last 4 hours....
  • If you live in an apartment complex, check with the office first to see if they have it.  If they don't, or that doesn't apply, contact FedEx right away and explain the situation to them.  They'll tell you what your options are.

  • Since you know what it was, you know who it is from.  Ask them if they insured the package.  If it was worth $200, you can bet your @$$ I would have insured it.  They can file the claim, be reimbursed and buy another set.

  • Contact the shipper, meaning Sears, as transportation companies have to deal with the shipper. You don't own the product until you actually receive it so they would either re-ship or refund your money. FedEx would then refund Sears for the claim. If Sears tries to claim otherwise, a chargeback on the credit card would be pretty easy in this case. It's the fault of FedEx for leaving a package unsecured, which is a risk they take for the sake of saving time and money of another delivery attempt. They are ultimately responsible to Sears.
  • It's not the fault of FedEx if Sears does not require a signature, which they probably don't. So Sears would be responsible for sending you a replacement, which they will probably do without a problem. However they'll probably require a signature this time, so you'll need to make sure you're home to get your package. Was an actual door tag left at your door, or just a sticker from the box that might have peeled off?
  • Yes, this has happened to me before.  I ordered some bedding from Crate & Barrel that never arrived.  I contacted FedEx or UPS (can't remember which one now) and Crate & Barrel.  They immediately shipped me a replacement at no cost.  A month later they found the package--they delivered to the wrong apartment in my complex.
  • Wow- so many different opinions.... I know that three of my aunts chipped in to get it so I can contact them to see if they had insurance.  I will try contacting Sears as well.  It was an actual door hanger- not a peeled off sticker- as I thought about this too.  What was weird is that it had the tracking # on it, but nothing else was filled out, s it usually woudl have been- all the info was left blank...
  • the only time I've ever received a door tag was if something needed to be signed for or if it was left on the back porch.  In my experience, FedEx does a poor job of filling in their door tags.  UPS is better at it.  I would look all around your house to see if there is a package anywhere.

  • My UPS man likes to hide my boxes in the craziest places in my backyard when I don't answer the door.  Take a good long look in the back.
