New York-New York City

candid-style photographer

Hi Everyone, I need your help! When my fiance and I first got engaged, his cousin, who is an artistic photographer, begged us to let her photograph our wedding since she was trying to transition to professional wedding photography and needed it for her portfolio. I was hesitant to accept, as she has a reputation in the family for being a bit flaky, but it was such a generous offer that we did. Well, now she is begging off for vague personal reasons, and we need a photographer! Has anyone had a great experience with an NYC photographer that you can recommend? My fiance hates posed pictures so we would be looking for someone with more of a candid style. TIA!

I loved our photographer Kella MacPhee.  She is based in Central Jersey but travels to NYC for a very minimal fee.  www.kellamacphee.com

My wedding is in December so I haven't used my photographer yet but I love this style on his website and equally loved his personality when I meet with him.  He's very laid back and is more candid. His name is Craig Paulson.  My friend's boss used him for her wedding and loved him.

My now husband and I are not very good at posing for pictures either. we used Dan Wagner and he was phenomenal. There wasn't one bad picture and even in places where he posed us we were very comfortable and they turned out to be the most natural looking pictures which just so happened to be our favorite.

sarahj- can I ask how you came to Kim? That is so funny, I was about to suggest her. If you have a large budget I would suggest Susan Stripling, but if not Kim is AMAZING!!

I just went with Joseph Lin Photography. I was a bridesmaid at my girlfriend's wedding where he was the photographer and this boy can get you to do some funny things. We had a lot of fun with him. Google him and look at this work but definitely meet him. Very fun person to be around. -CR
