Hot and humid on wedding day?

Xpost with the outdoor weddings board I'm getting married this weekend and the forecast is calling for sunny, hot and humid. This is unusual for this time of year here. The entire thing will be outdoors. The ceremony is in the shade under a big oak tree at 4 pm, then dinner/dancing in a tent. We will bring in some fans for the tent, have tons of cold drinks, but any other ideas for ways to make it fun and not unbearable? tia

  • I don't think you really can/need to do anything else.  The guests know that it's all outside right?  So they will dress accordingly.  As long as you have the fans and cold drinks, there's not a whole lot else you can do.  At least it's later in the day, so the main heat of the day will have passed.  It always cools off a bit in the evening.

My wedding was like this but unfortunately the ceremony was in full sun because I suck. Youre doing as much as you can for your guests, just try to keep the ceremony outside as short as possible. As for YOU - dont get dressed until the last possible minute because you will be steaming in that dress.
  • djtulum - I'm getting married this weekend in Toronto and given the summer we've had, I'm absolutely amazed by the forecast for this weekend! I suppose there could be worse things than a hot sunny wedding day though :)Your plans sound good, tree shade is the best for hot days.

  • Also, I just looked at your bio and it looks like you're going to have a beautiful wedding!  I love your invitations and color scheme. We also got married facing our guests with the officiant doing the ceremony from down in the middle of the aisle or off to the side.  Pics in bio and if you want to read more about how to do that, you can check out his website dayofdreams.com.  There's a whole section about making that big change to face forward.  I loved it.

  • Mine was ridiculously hot and I know our guests really appreciated being able to have drinks before and during the ceremony.  You may want to have drink service before the ceremony if it is too hot.
  • Ditto PPs: Your wedding looks really pretty. Your DIY is awesome! Do you have programs and are you using programs? Is it possible to make them into fans by this weekend? Or check local stores for handheld paper fans that coordinate in your colors. That will help. GL and have a GREAT time this weekend!
  • I feel for you summer brides!  I don't know how you do it.  I get greasy as soon as I leave my house, I can't imagine doing it in a wedding dress.

  • yeah I guess all I can do is serve cold drinks, that's a good idea to have them before the ceremony as well as after. We've had an unsually cool and rainy summer so far, and the heat wave we get in july is about 6 weeks late. Ah well, at least it won't be raining!
