2 unrelated questions

1.  The kelly clarkson post made me wonder.   I wore a somewhat ill fitting dress for my ceremony (had another one for the reception so Ididnt flash everyone all night)  It was strapless and wasnt tight enough around my boobs. so in some pics, it slid down a little farther than I would have liked.  Can pics be photoshopped to reveal less skin but not make the dress look weird?2.  My DH and I are arguing about mortages.  We have one now.  We are in the market for a waterfront home.  If we save for 2-3 more years we can buy one outright.  he wants to take advantage of the economy and put the reg 20% down and buy now.  As much as I want a summer house of our own,I dont want 2 mortages.   Thoughts?

Re: 2 unrelated questions

  • I don't know about #1.The benefit of having the mortgage is that you can get a tax break on the interest. If you have the money to buy outright, I would save it and have the two mortgages, personally. I would talk to a financial planner about it, though.

  • 1) this is a question for your photographer. 2) this is none of anyone's business but you and your DH's.

  • 1.  I am not 100% sure about this.  Because of my dress' detail on the bodice my seamstress could only take it in so much.  And for being a plus size I have small boobs.  (they're not small, but every thing I buy to fit my bodice is always too big in the bust).  So, some of my pictures it gapes a bit.  My photographer had me hold my flowers up a lot :)  I love him.2.  If you can afford it now and your jobs are secure, I would take advantage of the economy now and get one.  Two mortgages suck, but you might be kicking yourself in 2-3 years when the houses are likely to go up.

  • 1. No idea, but probably.2. Given the economy, I wouldn't want two mortgages.
  • Pumpkin- yeah, i'm planning asking her.   I saw a pic that my DH's parents chose to frame.  I was embarrassed. And I know its between me and DH, I guess everyone keeps telling us (even our finance guy) that a mortgage isnt bad.  I just have this irrational thought that debt is bad and to avoid it whenever possible.  Even for things like mortgages.  Just interested in others thoughts.
  • I just realized how snobby my post sounds.   I only had 2 dresses because I fell in love with one in a vintage store in NYC 3 weeks before the wedding.  It was cheap and a bit faded even after cleaning, but I loved it and so fun to dance in!And i grew up with a cottage and loved it.  it has always been a dream of mine to have a little place of my own that allows me to wake up and see water.  Even without DH, I would have one day had one myself but def. not as soon as we are able to now.
  • A good rule of thumb is to never pay interest on something that doesn't appreciate in value. A home has the potential to appreciate in value (well, it used to, I'm not sure anymore).

  • 1.  I would think someone who knows Photoshop really well should be able to fix it, but I don't know for sure. 2.  I'd be uncomfortable with two mortgages, honestly.  Getting a mortgage for a second home seems like unnecessary debt to me.
  • The only thing I will say about your #2 is that there is a possibility that we will see interest rates climb to early 80's pricing which was in the 16-18% range in the next couple of years.  FI have thought about this from buying a car to possibly trying to sell our house in a couple of years and get something a little bigger--if rates are through the roof we will stay the course!  Personally, I think it is a little dangerous to put all your eggs in one basket ie the house when you could have other monies working for you somewhere else, such as the stock market.  Granted, it has taken a tumble lately but now is a great time to jump in.  Having some money for alternative investment is good, espcially when you would be banking on this lakefront home to appreciate with all your $$$$ in it.  We might also start to see some inflation, which we already are with cars thanks to cash for clunkers.  I am not a finance professional but I hope this gives a little food for thought :-)
  • For #1- Certain design programs have the ability to copy and paste a small portion of the picture, so you may be able to copy the top part of your dress and paste it higher up. Since it is a replication it may look weird if the top of your dress has a lot of detail.
