If you've read any of my posts over the last two days--you'd know the own of the bridal boutique I bought my dress at suggested she cut a piece of the fabric off to substitute ordering a color swatch in. My dress came in yesterday, and I went to get it today. I tried it on--it was much bigger than I remembered it being--but I have lost a few pounds...so I assumed that was why. I hadn't anticipated needed the dress altered besides the hem and bustle. Here comes my new vent. I was just making room in my closet for the dress--and opened the bag to admire it. Inside the bag, the own put the dress tags, extra bag of sequins, peals, etc. Along with that was a swatch of the fabric stapled to the tags. WTF. She cut my dress when she had a swatch of the fabric the whole time? Wow. Thanks. On top of that, I found the tags that indicate the size. The sample dress was a 4--it fit perfect, so I ordered a four. The dress I picked up today? It's an 8. No wonder it's big. I have to call to get the right dress--but this dress took 6 months to come in, and my wedding is in 6 months. Getting a new dress might not be an option. Any advice?

I'd raise hell. I don't know what it is about bridal shop owners, but the ones I've dealt with are pretty shady (guess they're not a repeat customer-type business, huh?).

I'd tell them for sure to order you a size 4.  If there is any express shipping rate the store can handle that since they were at fault.  I'm sure they can get a dress in quickly if they need to.

That's their mistake, so if they can't get you the right size in soon enough (the rush charge covered by them, of course), then they should do all alterations for no charge. Thanks sucks.  It makes me wonder if it was a mistake or if they ordered it on purpose to get you with alternation charges.

That piece of fabric stapled to the tags may be the one from your dress, no? Since they ordered you the wrong size, you should at least be able to get a discount or something, but you did leave the store with it, so I don't know. As for what you should do, I would just find a good seamstress and have it taken in.

Well, they should be able to get the right dress in time, especially since they made a mistake.  But the other option would just be to have the dress taken in, at their expense, of course.

Time to throw a hissy fit, speak to the manager, and tell them they need to pay for express shipping or the alterations to the dress. Also, I hope you have your receipt. It will be hard to prove that you ordered a 4 without it.

I just saw that your wedding is in March.  I would demand they order you the correct size and pay any shipping or rush fees that will be charged.

I would tell them to order a size 4 asap and pick up whatever rush fee that needs to be paid to get it here on time. If it absolutely can't get here on time, tell them that you will not be paying for any alterations necessary to make it the right size.

They're idiots.  I'd call them ASAP about the incorrect size and raise all kinds of hell with the owner.If you can, get them to take it back and then go elsewhere.  These people are too dumb to be trusted.

No, the fabric stapled the the tags came from the dress maker--it's a square inch of fabric. The piece she cut off this morning is about 4 inches long--and it took it home in my shoe box. Just rummaged my room to find the receipts. It clearly indicates I ordered a size 4. Time to make a phone call. FML.

When my dress came in, they sent the wrong size, however it turned out that my dress was already made, but that they had made several at the same time and just sent my dress shop the wrong one. Meaning all that had to be done was a phone call to the manufacturer and my dress was in the shop like 3 days later.  Granted, I had a normal shop owner to talk to, but I'm just saying that they don't necessarily have to make you a whole new dress.  Hopefully it's a much smaller issue. Definitely be forceful with the owner and make sure you get the right dress, but please don't go BSC on her, it honestly might not be her fault (other than she did not notice the error).  If she actually ordered you the wrong size, maybe then go crazy on her.

The first thing that came to mind was that they "made" you cut the dress because there was no other quick option so that you couldn't return the dress. It bet they'd say they couldn't sell or send it back like that...since it'd been "altered"

I just got off the phone with her--and she claims the size I have is the same size as the sample...even though the sample size was marked as a four, and my receipt is marked as a 4. She claims the sizes on their samples are "vanity sizes." Umm, what? Then she followed it up by saying 'Your dress is just big because you lost weight." She suggested I come try on the sample again. Oy. Not happy.

The place I ordered my dress from has their own seamstress... If this is the case for you and they can not rush a 4... make sure they pay an OUTSIDE seamstress to  fix your dress. Don't give them another chance to fvck it up again!!

Well that doesnt really make sense...the samples are usually stretched out from so many people trying on. If it were the exact size, your dress should be a little tighter than the sample (meaning it should fit because you lost weight.) And what happened to size 6? How are they just gonna skip a size? Time to raise lots of hell.

"Vanity sizes"? WTF? She's lying to cover her azz. Don't let them mess with you. If you ordered a 4, you should get a four. I don't get how even if the sample was sized differently than the 'regular' dresses, you wouldn't get the dress you ordered.

If your receipt says you ordered a size 4, you best be recieving a size 4, and fast.  I'm sure they gave you an 8 so they could make bank on the alterations, cause dropping 2 sizes in alterations probably isn't cheap.I'd raise hell and it sounds like you're gonig to, so go at em!

This is exactly the type of thing I am worried about happening to me- especially given that we're currently 4 weeks out (exactly) and no dress. Sigh. The dress you've got clearly isn't the one you ordered, so take it back and demand your dress or a refund.

Vanity sizes?  Bullshit.  I worked in a bridal store, and you don't basically lie to your customers just to make them feel better.  We ALWAYS told them that sizes ran a little small and to not worry about the size.These people are BSC.  If they don't work with you, call the BBB, stat.

Thanks to all of you for making me realize I am not crazy--and totally justified in being pisssed. I'm going in first thing tomorrow--FI is joining. Amoro--I was thinking the same thing. If the dress i tried on was really an 8 and not a 4--when exactly did they plan to tell me? Never, I guess. Fucckers.

As the post said further up, I would bet anything in the world that their reasoning for making you cut your dress was to make it where you can't return it.  It obviously won't be able to be sold again with a chunk out of it.  I would go with the suggestion of having it taken in at an independent tailor at THEIR expense.  If they won't do it, raise a fuss with the BBB and make a huge stink for them.  They would be stupid to not try to make you happy since it was clearly their mistake.  I would also definitely print that article further up and tell them that you'll press charges, nd follow through if they don't fix the problem.  What a huge hassle that they could have completely avoided.  Ugh.
