Wedding Planning Book

I'm newly engaged and just beginning to plan my wedding. Can anyone recommend a good wedding planning book or two? Thanks!Erin

Re: Wedding Planning Book

  • Congrats!  I can't recommend a book because I didn't use one.  I created one for myself using a binder/file folders and that worked well for me.  Also, the knot checklist is quite comprehensive and very helpful.

  • I bought one and never used it.  I found a lot of internet resources and if I found something I wanted to keep, I printed it and kept in in a 3 ring binder.
  • I would suggest to go into a book store and look at all of the different ones and find one that you like. There are literally hundreds out there and everyone likes different ones. That or making your own with office supplies and tabs works great too!

  • There are so many! Just go over to the bookstore, they have a whole aisle dedicated to wedding planning, and start browsing to see which one will best suit you. They were all about the same if you ask me.
  • I think they are all garbage. If I were you, I'd just buy a binder some section dividers and start saving pictures and information that you like in there. There is nothing in a wedding planning book that you can't find for free online.

  • I don't remember the exact ones I bought, but if you go to Amazon, you can browse through wedding planning books, and lots of them allow you to look inside at the table of contents and excerpts, and there are also reviews to let you know whether it's a good book or not. The other great thing about Amazon is that you can find lots of used wedding planning books on the Marketplace, sometimes for one cent each.

  • I would also wait a month or two before buying anything--I got three wedding planning binders as engagement gifts, and two wedding planning books (that I don't ever use and am glad I didn't waste my own money on).  I like having an organizational binder, but the rest is pretty useless.  They can be pretty outdated and the internet is much easier.

  • My friend got me a book called the 'Anti-Bride Guide' when I got engaged. It was a fun little book divided into different sections of wedding planning points that got you thinking outside the box on weddings.Of course, I ended up with a super traditional wedding, but it was a thought provoking read!
  • My MOH got me a wedding planning book and I haven't used it for anything.  I actually keep better track of stuff on WeddingWire, and through favorites and e-mail and a regular old divider folder.

  • We haven't used one. I would just make a big binder with dividers for each section (bridal salon, groomsmen, officiant, caterer, etc.) and keep track of everything there. TK has an awesome wedding budgeter and checklist that we also printed and have used a great deal.

  • The Bridal Bargains series is good for ideas on keeping your budget low and for lists of questions to ask each vendor before you book them. They also come out with a new edition every year or two, so the earlier editions are super cheap. Also a basic etiquette book is good so you don't come on here and get reamed out for asking how you can force your bridal party to do things. ;)

  • Real Simple Weddings has a checklist in almost every issue that's pocket-size and pretty cool. And if you register at JC Penney, they have an awesome binder for free!
  • I also just grabbed a binder to put pictures/task lists and everything else I needed into it.
  • I checked out some books at the library but just for ideas on floral arrangements and DIY stuff. No planning book though. We just had a 3 ring binder for all receipts and contracts.
  • I received 3 or 4 different ones as engagement presents from family and friends, but right now I don't use any of them.  I carry a notebook in my purse to write down things I stumble on (websites, shoes, etc.) I went to Barnes and Noble and spent $12 on a black glossy portfolio (It looks like a folder with 26 sleeves inside.) I use that for menus, things from magazines, etc.  I have printed things off websites that I put in there too.  It is working very well for me so far. The one book I liked was "The Knot Book of Lists" or something like that.  It is small enough to fit in your purse, and has a lot of good questions to ask in it.
