New York-New York City

New York DJ

Hello, I am getting married on a Friday evening next July at Water's Edge in Long Island City. I am looking for a great DJ/MC. I am looking to spend under $1,000. I am looking for someone who is lively and plays a great mix of music anything from 70's disco, 80's new wave, classics, and current music. I definitely am not looking for someone who cheeses it up with glow sticks, etc. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions you may have. Thanks in advance!!!

I'm using "DJ Qool Marv", reputedly the best in town -- young, hip, does international parties, LA, mostly NY, sometimes Boston, believed by many to have the "deepest" collection of music ANYWHERE.  He charges !1500 generally for the whole gig -- including ceremony, set up, etc., and brings all his own equipment, but he may be negotiable.  I wanted him so very badly for my June 2010 wedding that I didn't even try.  but google him with the above name and you'll get one or two e-mail options for him.  he will e-mail you directly; if he's free, he just may want to do it! g'luck

oh, if you contact him (not that I'll get anything for this except a "thank you" which is good enough for me), tell him Beth whose wedding he's doing at Ramscale Penthouse Studio on June 12, 2010, sent you! tx

Unless you go the ipod route or find someone on Craigslist, there are a few DJ under $1,000 - but not sure if you can get both DJ and MC for that price. Off the top of my head, Sounds of Success, The Pros - maybe Dash of Class but that might be a tad over $1k.  Try weddingwire.com and do a DJ search under vendors.  There is also Gigmasters.com - you can search by price and area and you'll get a list of djs within your budget.Be mindful, for the price you are seeking (and as policy), most packages start at 4 hours.  If you'll need another hour for cocktails, or if your reception will run longer, than you'll have to pay extra, which will mean $1k+.  GL.

Hey, check out The Pros. they have DJ packages starting at like $700... It'll be a DJ who will work as an MC, and includes basic lighting. They also have photo and video and will take like $150 off each package if you go with them. Good luck!

I'd recommend Colorblind Productions.  Rob was my dj and he was great.
