Engagment party update

I wrote last week about my friends upcoming engagment party, whose wedding I am in and if I needed to bring a gift and if so what.  Apparently I missed the boat on my nice bottle of wine, b/c all of the other bridesmaids and groomsmen brought nice gifts like engraved glasses and individual coffee makers. I felt terrible...but everyone on the board told me it was not really a gift type event and if I felt like I should bring something a card and a bottle of wine would do.

Your first problem is comparing your gift to what others gave.  You shouldn't give a gift out of obligation, rather because you want to.  I'm sure the B&G both appreciated the bottle of wine just as much as they did the other gifts.

I would prefer a bottle of wine over engraved anything or a coffee maker (already have one).

We can't help it that we were right and your other friends were wrong. They apparently aren't aware that they will be dropping bucks on shower gifts, wedding gifts, and other misc wedding shiit that costs guests a crap ton of money.

I would prefer a bottle of wine over engraved anything or a coffee maker (already have one).Seriously.  I can pretty much guarantee they will enjoy your gift more than the other crap they got.

And yeah. Who the hell brings coffeemakers to an engagement party? I would hope they aren't registered yet. That's just wierd. Then, as a bride, I would have to go and probably return teh coffee maker, and that's just a pain. And do you know how many times I'm going to drink out of an engraved glass? zero. Plus, i think my mom would have been upset if someone else bought us toasting flutes because she always thought that was an MOB thing. Henceforth, I would have to drink the only present that makes sense, the wine, in order to deal with all the other crap people brought me.
