  • Halloween? usually at some party that is reminiscent of sloppy college daysThanksgiving? Lately we have been going down to the Florida house a lot as my parents get closer to retirementChristmas? Again, Florida house but lasr year Mike and I just stayed home and enjoyed our very first Christmas together alone. It was really special. This year I think we will make the trip down there thought... I will miss the snow!New Years? oh making out at a bar or house party... I kind of prefer to do something more low key this year because New Years always seems to depress people man.
  • Shelly! Where do you live again? I could have their ceasar chalupa until I was blue in the face.

  • How do you like to spend the following Holidays;Halloween?Dress up in a costume and go to a party usuallyThanksgiving? Dinner with the family at Grandma's house. Fi will be drug along this year.Christmas?Usually it was spent between my mom and dad's house. This year not so sure since I'm living with Fi and we have to consider his side of the family too.New Years?Probably a party on new years eve then recovering on new years day**If a particular one doesn't apply to you feel free to interchange it with one that does.
  • I don't consider Hallowe'en a holiday. I spend it handing out goodie bags for our 10 or so trick-or-treaters. Thanksgiving - not much either. My mom's family never celebrated T-giving (they're Polish), and my dad's family always used to get together before my grandma passed away. Now we just go to FI's mom's for a nice dinner on the Sunday. Christmas - I haven't spent Xmas eve without my family yet. I still get a stocking, too. So I wake up and my mom and dad's. FI comes along, he's not that in to Xmas. We usually do Xmas eve dinner with Fi's family, then go to my mom and dad's for board games and wine. Almost always have Xmas dinner at my mom and dad's (or with my mom's family). Usually boxing day we fondue with my mom and dad, sisters, and their families. New Years - we always, always, always go to our small town dance. I always spend NYD hung.right.over.

  • Halloween: this year, we live in a subdivision, so I'm hoping that we'll have Trick-Or-Treaters. I don't really do the slutty costume at the bar thing. Thanksgiving: before hubby, I had to split time between my mom's side of the family and my dad's side. Last year, we did my husband's fam for lunch, my mom's side for dinner, and my dad's side on Friday (if I remember correctly). I imagine it'll be sort of the same this year. Christmas: how I would like it: not doing anything for two days- just chilling at home with my husband and having the family come to us. How it really is: splitting time between my mom's side of the family, my dad's side of the family, my husband's maternal grandmother, my husband's paternal grandparents, and my parents' house in the span of about 36 hours. Christmas is NOT my favorite time of year, let me just say. Once we have kids, we're doing it our way. I'll be derned if I'm gonna run all over middle GA with children in tow. New Year's: we always do a low-key New Year's- appetizers and booze on the couch switching between countdowns and playing board games. It's a wind-down time; see Christmas.
  • I would love to spend time with our family and friends.Reality is both DH and I work on all those holidays and do not celebrate them.  For xmas we still give gifts, but we only spend a few hours in the morning and right before bed with each other. Our families live a plane ride away, so we NEVER seen them for any holiday.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Central IL.  We just got one a couple of years ago.  I love the Brother's Bock.  Its one of the few beers I can drink.  I always order the monterey chicken wrap :)

  • I want to mention Easter - it's a huge deal with my family. We do church in the morning (for those who go), and then a huge breakfast afterwards at my Baba's apartment...we used to have it at her house, then she moved to a much smaller apartment, and we still cram in there for deviled eggs, polish keilbassa sausage, perogies, cabbage rolls, ham, krova candy, walnut cookies, and andruit dessert. Fi usually hits up McD's beforehand. Then we go to mom and dad's and have my dad's family over. We still have an easter egg hunt. Good Friday we always have fish at FI's mom's place.

  • Halloween? Dressing up the dog in her skunk costume, handing out candy!  I actually had a grown man run off the porch once when he saw her thinking it was a real skunkThanksgiving?  Stuffing my face.. dinner w/ my fam.  Dessert w/ H fam.Christmas Eve- Church, lasagna, and watch A Christmas Carol w George C. Scott w my fam.  Christmas Day-Half the day w his fam, other half w mineNew Years? We used to go out alot, but now we just enjoy spending new years w our close friends and fam.  At someone's house, drinking, playing drunken scrabble and bingo
  • Thanksgiving-DH's mom and stepdad Easter-my family Christmas-alternates (including Christmas Eve) New Years-friends
  • Good Friday we always have fish at FI's mom's place. I have never once been to your FI's mom's place. Ever.

  • P2, Easter is definately welcome. I only mentioned the other ones because thats the season we are heading into. We do a big family dinner for Easter. We aren't really religious so must of our holidays are just celebrated as a time for family.

I hate halloween. I find its an unnecessary excuse to dress like a skank and eat candy. Thanksgiving comes ebfore halloween in Canada, but we usually have dinner with my family. Christmas it the BEST TIME OF YEAR! I start celebrating christmas the day after halloween - the music, the shopping, the decorating, the good feeling, I love it. My husband works in retail so he normally works boxing day but this year he works christmas so probably just dinner with my family in the evening once hes off work. My family is hilarious so I wont miss out on visiting with them for this holiday. New years is over hyped. I like having drinks at home with my husband and watching movies.
  • I don't dress like a skank.  I was a jedi last year.

Not EVERYONE dresses like a skank (I have seen some awesome costumes), but the majority of girls ive seen on halloween (including my friends) do.
  • We used to hand out candy on Halloween, but now we are the a-holes that turn off the lights so we don't have to give candy to the little jerks that walk around talking on their cell phones.  They aren't even near cute. All other holidays are complicated.  Fi's parents are divorced so we have to split time between three families.  Fortunately (or unfortunately) we all live pretty close together.Last New Year's Eve was so cold that we sat on the couch and watched House, eating Cossetta's, being losers...oh yeah.
  • oh fishy, you're funny :)

  • I'll agree to that one, Nebb.PS--Just wanted to let you know I finished season 1 of mad men!  Can't wait for season 2!

:) I love hearing about people getting into mad men, it seems like the followin ghas just exploded this summer. Season 2 is really good.
  • Halloween: FI went to Salem State College in Massachusetts, so we spend Halloween with his friends in Salem.  It's good times, if you get there early enough.Thanksgiving: We switch it up.  Either we spend it at his family's in Salem, NH, or we spend it with my family in Florida.  This year, it's his family (dammit). Christmas: Always with my family (his doesn't do anything, mine has a big shindig). New Year's: We shake it up, and go anywhere we feel like.

  • Halloween is spent with my son - he's now too old to go trick-or-treating - so I guess now, he'll spend it with his friends. Thanksgiving - Usually with my side of the family, but now that we're in GA, we usually will be with his family in Texas.Christmas - I have my son every other Christmas, so we spend it with the immediate family.  This Christmas it is likely to be just me and FI.New Year's - If there's a party, we'll head out.  But we don 't have a tradition.
  • Halloween: this my favorite not-so-real holiday. I love it, and wait for it every single year. I generally have a huge party. Last year, we were moving into our new house, so I didn't get to put up even one decoration. I was seriously bummed. This year, we'll be making up for it (even though it is only 2 weeks after our wedding).Thanksgiving: I have everyone over to my house (both my side's and FI's immediate family). We go to FI's family either the day after or the Sunday after.Christmas: Eve at our house with my dad's side and whoever else wants to join us. FI and I open Christmas presents to/from one another after midnight mass. Christmas morning we're at FI's family. Generally, Christmas night, we go to my mom's parents because they refuse to give in and have it at a convenient time, even if it's not technically Christmas day (I should mention it's just them, me, and my brother. No other family). The Sunday after Christmas we go to FI's grandma's with all his family.New Years seems to be spent at a game night with FI's family. It rotates between all of us kids and his parents who host it.

  • Halloween? Nothing special, maybe a party with friendsThanksgiving & Christmas? We alternate every other year in IN or PA...New Years? Most likely with friends.
  • Halloween - we don't do anything. Since there are no streetlights in the entire subdivision, and only 2 houses on our entire street, it seems pretty pointless. The girls don't seem to miss not trick-or-treating, since neither one is a really big candy fan, unless it is Swiss dark chocolate (yes, my girls are totally rotten, and I take full blame) Thanksgiving - normally we spend it with my parents and his mom and "stepmom," with my girls spending probably 2 out of every 3 years with us (their father's choice, he chooses not to see them every time he has the "right" to) Christmas - church Christmas Eve, both the early children's service and the 11:00 late service, complete with incense; Christmas morning is usually at home, with parents, in-laws, and 1 or other of my siblings and their families at my house for dinner (since i have the biggest kitchen). This year is going to be a bit different because my brother wants us to come to Texas for Christmas. He's offered to buy our plane tickets, so we will probably do that. My girls are "supposed to" alternate holidays between me and their father, but they are always home for Christmas (for which I'm exceedingly grateful)
  • Halloween - get dressed up and hit the clubs with my girls; try to win contests. I won a trip to Vegas one year!Thansksgiving & Christmas used to be split with both families. Eve at one house and the day of at the other house. Not sure if we're going to keep doing this because it is exhausting to see everyone in one weekend.NYE - with friends!
