Wedding Vows & Ceremony Discussions

Are you using an aisle runner?

Our ceremony and reception will both be in a hotel. The ceremony will be in a small function room. Someone suggested renting a runner for the "aisle." I don't think it's that important to have one. The carpet in the room is a typical hotel carpet, but it's not hideous, and a runner (unless it's tan or beige) would clash with it. I also fear that the train of my dress or my heels will get caught in the runner.

The room that the ceremony will be in is small, so the aisle that we'll walk down will be only about 15 feet long. I'd rather use the money that would have been spent renting the runner on something more fun/important.

Did you use or are you using one?

Don't do it. These are all excellent reasons to not use an aisle runner.
  • I was actually wondering about this, too, because I was just at a friend's wedding a couple weeks ago, and her dress was filthy just after the ceremony! She was in a church, and it was an older carpet, but to the naked eye, it didn't look dirty! Anyways, she didn't have a runner, and I know her mom was upset talking to me about how dirty her dress got at the hem. Since I'm getting married in 2 months, she wanted to suggest to me to get one for my church...which now I think I'm going to do. I know that this won't happen everywhere, and the dress is going to get a little dirty - that's natural - but I would rather it not look like that just after the ceremony. I guess it all depends!

  • We aren't using one. No one will notice, and definitely won't notice a dirty hem. People get married in the sand on the beach, and no one notices how dirty that hem may get. Waste of money.
  • The church we're getting married at actually discourages an aisle runner for safety and aesthetic reasons so no, we're not having one.

  • I haven't actually decided yet, but I'm leaning towards no. I'd rather spend the money on something else. I think my venue has like a red carpet I could use (though maybe that's for the "grand entrance"? Can't remember).

  • An isle runner should only be purchased if it's in the budget.  It isn't a necessary part of the ceremony.  If you do choose to get one they are available in plain white or personalized.

  • Our wedding is outdoors (paved with brick) where the aisleway comes down a few stairs in the middle of a small ampitheater and through some chairs we'll have set up on the actual ground level.  I kind of wanted to do one but the thought of someone's dress or heels catching on it and someone falling down the stairs scared the stuffing out of me.  I vote for use your money on a little something extra :)

  • I've heard of too many nightmare stories of a bride catching a heel and going DOWN because of an aisle runner. Unless you buy a very high end expensive one, and honestly, I don't think it's worth the money!
  • Runners don't need to be expensive.  I bought 12 yards of muslim- off white color- for less than 40 dollars. It is a bit wider than the cheap ones which are only 36 inches. It is finished on the edge so no sewing is required.  I'll get a nice cord and use a long tube that I already have.
