my ring

I am annoyed at the fact that I have only been engaged for 3 weeks and I can't wear my ring because the jewlery store people are idiots! A couple months ago when I picked out the ring I noticed there was something wrong with it. It was missing a diamond on one side. The jewler thought I was nuts until he looked at it under the scope. I had them put the ring info in their wish book and asked to note about the missing diamond. My FSIL was with me and when she told FI that we picked out a ring, she warned him about it. When he bought the ring he mentioned the story and they said it was taken care of. The morning after the engagement I was admiring my ring when wouldn't ya know it....... they gave him the crap ring!! I was so mad!!! To top it off when I went back to the jewlery store that told me I couldn't keep the "crap" one while they ordered me another one! So new here i sit with no ring for 14 days because they are stupid! They didn't even offer me anything for the hassle! I will not be buying FI's ring there!

Re: my ring

  • The jeweler had to look at the ring under a scope to notice a missing stone?

  • I'm thinking the fault lies with your FI on this one for not checking the ring.  But my ring is in the shop now too.  NBD you're still engaged.  Congrats.

  • I'm sure your FI will like that you're calling it a crap ring.

  • I am not all upset or anything, was just sharing my story, FI did think it looked funny when he picked it up but was told it was just the lighting. Honestly I just think that ring should have never made it on display!
  • It's just 2 weeks in a whole lifetime; it will fly by.  Since my ring is an antique, I handed it over to a goldsmith for a week to have some of the shank rebuilt.  I wore a sterling silver claddagh ring that I had purchased on ebay for $10 a few years ago just because I'm silly like that. You might want to have the ring inspected by an independent jeweler just in case the prongs/setting needs to be fixed.
  • I am suprised that this happened because it was at Kay's. It wasn't really noticable that a diamond was missing, i showed the ring to lots of people and if i didn't point it out they didn't notice. Please don't blame FI. He thought it didn't look right but didn't have time to get a new one before the night he planned on proposing. It is not a crap ring at all, I am suprised that after I pointed it out in the store, they still sold it.
  • I am suprised that this happened because it was at Kay's. I wouldn't be surprised if I were you.  People who work at chain jewelers like Kay's don't usually know what they're doing/talking about as compared to people working in privately owned, independent jewelers who usually own the place.  Anyone can work at Kay's--it's the equivalent of working at the Gap.Nothing against their products, but the average joe working there probably isn't the best source on diamond information.

  • Brie- that makes sense, It should have been a red flag when I was the one to notice the missing diamond, and the guy working had to put it under the scope!! Oh well, I will be back soon enough. Was not trying to start a riot or anything! Just got bored and was thinking about it. Not sure what's up with the Boi link. I will have to check into that tomorrow.

  • Two of my diamonds glow under black light!!!! No joke. Googled it and apparently it's some rarity in certain stones. But believe me, I was FURIOUS!!! I thought they had sold me FAKE diamonds! FI also bought from a chain store and we DEFINATELY won't be back.
  • My fiance bought my ring from a chain store and noticed a diamond was missing too. When he took it back they gave him a really hard time and he returned it (he had only had it for two weeks and they have a 30 day policy). He bought it at a different location, but it was the holidays and they couldn't get it to him until after New Years, which is when he wanted to propose. Crappy chain stores!

  • I completely understand how bad it sucks to get a beautiful ring and want to show it off but you can't even wear it because it needs fixed.  When H and I went on our honeymoon on the 2nd day we were taking pictures on our cruise ship and on the way back to our room I look down and my 1carat diamond is missing out of the setting.  We ended up SOMEHOW finding it on the cruise ship - but I had to go the entire 2 week honeymoon with no ring (well actually I wore my band but it was a wrap so it had this big hole in the middle where my e ring should have been). It was awful.  But I have it back now and love it and appreciate it even more!
