AAA Membership?

We're trying to decide on home owners insurance, and we're between state farm or AAA. One of the perks of AAA is getting membership. So, anyone have AAA membership? Are you happy with it, do you get your money's worth? Also if anyone has any good or bad experience with either company for home owners, please share.

Re: AAA Membership?

  • I love state farm insurance.  They've always been really easy to work with and willing to lower premiums if I find a much better deal elsewhere.
  • We have State Farm homeowner's, as well as State Farm auto and life, and I did have renter's before it was switched over. I've never had an issue with it, and I really appreciate driving past my agent's office on the way home because I know if I need anything, I can go in and ask him in person. Plus, since we have State Farm for everything, they offer a multi-line discount.
  • You can get a ton of discounts with being a AAA customer.  Car rentals, truck rentals, hotels.  And the piece of mind of having a 24 hour road service. Its worth it.
  • Someone I work with has AAA and she loves it. She gets discounts at restaurants, car rentals and hotels. Then the whole free pick up if your car breaks down thing...
  • AAA is great especially if you drive older cars like I do.  They'll come & help you out if you lock the keys in your car or if your car breaks down.
  • Yes, and we love it. We've used it a few times for general things but it totally saved us last year.  It was Christmas night and our roommate locked the house and took the keys w/ him when he went 6 hours home for the holidays.  FI has a garage door opener so we could get in, but his locked car keys were in the house.  After several attempts at calling in someone to help us (shocking, no AAA agents answered their phone on Christmas), we got one from another town over to unlock the car door so we could get in the house.  FI was upset bc of lack of communication between him and roommate so we went to a hotel bar down the street to sit until we got in.  He forgot he put our Christmas presents on top of the car and drove off as they scattered all over the highway.
  • Sorry, we'll be switching our auto insurance to which ever company we pick for home owners, because of the discount.I've had state farm for 10 years for auto and love them, but Pete wants to go with AAA because of the membership, and they are about $75 cheaper a year.

  • No reviews on home owners insurance, but AAA (you mean the auto club right?) is awesome. BF has it and we use it so much. You can use it for any car as long as the person on the card is there, so we use it for both of our cars, and have gotten tows for friends too. They also just offered him a free year for a second person on his plan because he has had it for so long, so now I am on it too and don't need him to be there. We have gotten our cars towed a few times each (we have crappy cars), a battery change once, and once they came and changed my tire (I know how, I just could not get a lugnut off).

  • I've never had AAA insurance, but I'm a member, and I've been happy with it.  You can get pretty good discounts on hotel rooms and stuff. As for the on-the-road stuff, I've only used it once, but even using it just once definitely gives you your money's worth!  It's also nice to have the peace of mind.
  • I have State Farm for my car & renter's insurance and no problems. Also have AAA for the car. Very reassuring. And lots of discounts like PPs said!

  • AAA is great!  So worth the money.  I locked myself out of my car last Fall, and stupidly called a local locksmith directly instead of AAA.  They charged me $85!  I sent the receipt and a letter to AAA and they sent me a check for $85.  That's more than I paid for a year's membership.  Awesome.

  • We have AAA membership and it's nice.  Got our poor old clunker towed last fall and it came in handy.  Also nice to get maps and a heads up on construction before road trips.
  • I have AAA just for discounts on Amtrak and occassional lock outs, jump starts, etc.  It's worth it to me. I know nothing about any type of their insurance, but I wouldn't give that much weight in your decision either way.  A standard AAA membership is pretty inexpensive.
  • I used to have AAA. They have great discounts and roaside assistance. I work for a company dispatching roadside asistance for aour members. It's not AAA but its close. I would go for the AAA because of all the benefits it has to offer. My phone is ringing constantly because people break down or leave their keys in there veh.
  • I have AAA for my car.. and I am a member.. you actually get alot of perks that I dont even realize.. there are a number of stores that you get a discount at ( payless shoesource is one of them).. you also get travel discounts, hotel discounts, some food discounts.. Its good if you use it.. I always forget where we get discounts... I think its worth it though.
