NWR: Tattoos

Hi ladies1. Does anyone here have a tattoo? 2. If so, where is it and what is it? 3. Do you regret getting it? 4. Was it well thought out or a spur of the moment thing?I'm thinking about getting a tattoo on Saturday, hence the questions :)

Re: NWR: Tattoos

• What are you thinking of getting done? I toyed with the idea for a long time but didn't, and somewhat glad I didn't given that it would have been noticeable and given I'm in a professional position, I don't think it'd do much for me career wise.
• Sun, I was thinking about a welsh dragon on the inside of my ankle. I'm part welsh. And the inner ankle means its not in your face and easily covered by pants (I hardly wear skirts)
• 1. Yes2. A blue plumeria blossom on my hip3. Not yet.4. I thought about it for over a year before I decided to get it.  Plumerias mean "independence."  I broke my hip in three places in a car accident in 2005, and I had to re-learn how to walk again afterwards.  I got the plumeria on the hip that I broke.  Go for it, if you want to.  My advice would be to get it someplace you can hide it, if you ever need to (for an interview or a special occasion).

• 1. Does anyone here have a tattoo? Yes. I have 52. If so, where is it and what is it? - sonfloer on left ankle- moon on right ankle- aisian symbol on my back- butterfly on my toe- circuar design on the back of my neck3. Do you regret getting it? Yes, immensely. I got the majority of them before I was 18 and wish I had put more thought into the placement and meaninng of them. I could be the posterchild for poor life decisions in your late teens. 4. Was it well thought out or a spur of the moment thing? All were spur of the moment except for the one on my toe.
• 1. Yes2. I have 6 stars (big on top, small on bottom) on the length of my spine, a 2.5-3" wide star on each wrist that is a gradient of blues towards the center, and a swirl of stars (around 50 in each) on the side of each calf (goes from the top of my calf to 2/3rd down the middle of my shin) that are blue dark blue and yellow.3. Kind of,  yes. I feel uncomfortable in professional settings if they are visible (interviews I wear long sleeves to cover my wrists, I dont like to wear skirts or shorts to work because of my legs). I still like them and think theyre pretty, but they do make me feel like people view me as less professional.4. How thought out is something when youre 18, it may seem well thought out, but its not.
• 1. Yes, I have two. 2. A small flame (it sounds cheesy, but it's not cheesy biker flames, it looks as close to actual fire as I could make it, I promise) and a quote, both on my lower abdomen. 3. No, my tattoos are hidden even by a bikini so I never have to worry in a professional setting or around disapproving family members. I myself only really see them when I go to bed at night and when I get up in the morning so they aren't glaring at me all of the time, hard to get sick of them that way. The quote that I have rang very true to my life when I got that tattoo and still rings true to my life every day. 4. The first tattoo was thought about for a few months, I got it when I was 19. The second was much more spur of the moment. I had to do some research to find a good place nearby and schedule an appointment, but that's the only reason I really spent any time thinking about it. I want a 5th one. I know what I want and where I want it, but I'm afraid it's somewhere where my father might possibly see it, and even though I'm an adult and on my own, he'd still kill me if he saw it. :)
• I don't have one, and I'm not opposed to getting one, but if I do it, it's going to have to be something that I've thought about for a long time and that I'm absolutely sure I want on my body. FI and I are talking about getting some matching symbol when we get married, but so far I don't like any of his ideas. He's got a healer's pentacle on his shoulder and he's planning on getting the Ironman M-dot after he does his Ironman.

• I've always heard that you should think about getting a tattoo for at least six months before actually getting it to be sure that you really do want it. Fi has been thinking about getting one particular tattoo for as long as I've known him and it's never happened. It probably won't until I got to get my third and he'll piggy-back off of my appointment.
• I'm appalled by my spelling!aisian = asiansonfloer = sunflower
• 1.  Yes, one.2.  Tramp stamp; half-moon and star about the size of a quarter.3.  Nope4.  I knew I wanted a tattoo, what size, that I wanted black, where I wanted it, researched it for a few months and just went and picked something out that day.  If you go somewhere nice, they are really helpful and will draw up anything from your ideas.  That's what I did.  My mom was with me because I was 19 and she loved my tattoo so much, she got the same one on the inside of her ankle, hence why I don't regret my tattoo.
• 1. Yes!2. It's a shamrock on the lower right portion of my back3. Nope!  I love it!4. I thought about it for at least 5 years before I decided to get it.  I highly recommend making sure you want it before just going to get it.
• 1. I have three 2. #1 is a sort-of tribal tramp stamp, #2 is a lady bug (my mom also has one in the same spot), #3 is a paisley (my dog's name) 3. No 4. #1 spur of the moment, pick it off the wall. #2 and #3 were more meaningful and thought out, though I admit I didn't expect to be tattooed with #2 the day that I was.

• No, and I don't really have any desire to, but my mom called me this morning and asked what I would think if she decided to get a tattoo (she has always wanted one).  I told her to go for it... Apparently she saw something on TV this morning about a family where the mother went and got a tattoo and the whole family freaked out about it.  We're not that kind of family...my brother would think it was cool, I don't care one way or the other, and my dad's response was, "If you want a tattoo, then let's go get you a tattoo"

• 1. Does anyone here have a tattoo? Yes, I have 14 2. If so, where is it and what is it? All over, obviously. I have my initial on my chest (also FI's initial), both of my rib cages done, my neck, my middle back, and lower back (all connected through a series of flowing stars), both hips (the tattoos started with a winged track foot--I ran track in college--to represent my running), both feet, and my left wrist. 3. Do you regret getting it? I wouldn't really say I regret any of them, because they are a part of me--but, I wish I had given more thought to some of them. The one on my neck is hard to cover up---and I normally have short hair. 4. Was it well thought out or a spur of the moment thing?most of them were thought out--maybe not well thought out, but thought out nonetheless. I'd say only two were spur of the moment.

• No, I don't have any, but I've considered it from time to time.  If I were go get one, it would be small and discreet.  I'm not opposed to tats - to each his own - but there are people who will automatically judge negatively and consider the person to be unprofessional without knowing one single thing about that person.  Unfair, yes.  True, yes.  I have a friend who is a tat artist in Hollywood, and looks very scary (33+ tats), but is the nicest person around, and his hobby is woodworking.  He makes the most beautiful furniture. . .

• YesI have a bird on the back of my neckNo, I love my tattooI planned it for several months...I decided for my 21st bday I wanted a tattoo and went from there.
• 1.  I have two2. on my back it says "Watched over" in hebrew because my dad passed away and he had a hebrew name. and on my hip I have my FI's initials3. Nope and nope4.  Both were very random not thought out at all decisions, but atleast I didn't get a giant hello kitty tattooed on my asss like one of my friends.
• Thanks for all your responces ladies :) I have been thinking about getting 2 designs for about 4 years, so they are well thought out etc, and both would be hidden except in a bikini. Thanks again
• I have 4.... I have a koala bear on my right calf, a black cat on my stomach, dolhins with waves on my back, and angel wings (in memory of my gram) on my left shoulder... i love all of mine and have no regrets... I can cover them up in a professional situation and refuse to have anything that could offend. I don't like the idea of putting names on my body. All of mine were well thought out and totally one of a kind. I think it's important to meet with your artist and make sure that if you want he-she can desing you something that fits just what you want.
• I have 6 Anklet on right ankle, a mistake on my left ankle, a tribal tramp stamp, my daughters name on left shoulder blade, a butterfly on back of neck, and a heart on inside left wrist. I regret the mistake on left ankle it was a definite drunken spur of the moment done by my ExH. All the others were thought out I can't wait to get more.
• I have a tattoo. It's in the middle of my upper back, it's probably 2x2. It's a Sankofa bird. I regret getting it. I thought about it for awhile. I'm probably going to get it removed.
