NWR Ouch!

DH and I were out looking for a birthday gift for my brother.  I'm kind of oblivious to things when we shop but DH is not.  As we passed another young couple the woman apparently exclaimed: "Oh I love that dress!  I want to get one just like it when I'm pregnant too!"Ouch.  I'm glad she liked my maxi dress but I'm not pregnant.  Obviously I need to lose some belly fat. :(Cheer me up- has anyone else had this happen to them.

Re: NWR Ouch!

  • Yes.  Someone at work asked me how old my daughter was, thinking I had a newborn at home.  She was 8 years old at the time . . . guess it's not still baby fat if the child is in elementary school.

  • No, not like that. But, I was a bit taken aback by a girl yesterday. We went to fi's friends' housewarming party in NH. Fi was drinking so I was driving. When we got there, I was talking to one girl for all of five seconds when she offered me a margarita. I politely declined, and her response was "You're not pregnant, are you?" I said "No, we just live two states away and fi is planning on drinking so I am not." Her reply "OK good. Haha, I have a really strong reaction to pregnant girls!" What the H does that even mean? I didn't really talk to her for the rest of the party.
  • Oh no!!Don't feel bad.  A few weeks ago (and very bloated) I was in Target shopping for the two baby showers I had in the same weekend (meh) and there was a very pregnant woman that complimented me on the bedding I had chosen and said, "so, it's a boy?".
  • Whenever I gain weight it goes straight to my belly. A couple years ago I gained quite a bit and I didn't have money to buy all new clothes so most of my tanks and tees ended up being a little short (I'm also 5'11). So, you would assume people are looking at me b/c I'm a 21 year old with some belly showing, right? Well, my mother told me people were looking at me funny b/c I looked pregnant. Thanks, Mom!
  • My father just patted my belly on Friday night.  I'm NOT pregnant.I kindly returned the favor and asked him how far along he was.
  • Yep! The other day at work I had a patron (someone I sorta knew) point at my stomach and go "what's that?" And I said "what's what?" And she said, "were you not going to tell me about being pregnant?" I said, "that's because I'm not." She didn't even have the decency to look embarassed. Heifer.

  • Yea, I carry all of my weight in my belly too. I have gotten this way too many times to count. Especially since I work with kids, I will get them randomly patting my belly and asking if I have a baby in there. NO! I also had my sushi restuarant ask me TWICE if I was sure I wanted fish eggs on my rolls since I am pregnant. ugh!
  • Ditto mag - I live in fear of offending someone like that, so I never say anything.

  • I have had preschoolers do this to me...okay, one preschooler did it twice.  He would come up and ask me if i had a baby in my belly.  I told him no. and he did the exact same thing one week later.  again, i'm not pregnant.  I was standing there thinking how impossible it was for me to be pregnant as FI was in jail at the time and had been for a few months.  the things kids say...

  • Yep, only when I wear this one empire shirt I have. I've been asked 3 times by patients at work....sigh.
  • haha wow, reading these replies makes me feel a bit better about what happened to me the other day. This lady in the grocery store complimented my pants and then said: "I don't think my butt is big enough to wear something like that though"Ugh! I felt like running her over with the shopping cart, lol
  • once when i was a hostess & seating two ladies they motioned towards my belly and hesitantly asked. i said no and never wore that shirt again.

  • Lol no one in public has, but Dh likes to joke with me. If I eat a lot of food I definitely look like I have the beginning of a baby bump. He'll put his hand on my tummy and go "is that a little baby in there, I think I felt it kick!"  I would be mad but he's so excited that we'll be tcc soon I can't help but indulge his fantasy. One of my friends carries all her weight in her stomach. She's pretty much rail thin everywhere, so any time she eats she gets a little bulge. If she weighed 20 pounds more you wouldn't even notice it, but she gets a lot of baby comments. Now she just says "No I'm not pregnant but thank you for inquiring about my personal life."
  • I wore an empire line top (used to be my favourite...sigh) to a family event. FMIL said "oh, I used to wear tops like that all the time when I was pregnant" then gave me this look that just said 'confess, I know'. I wasn't pregnant, had just put back on all the weight I had lost. Thanks FMIL!
  • Ha! I had the same thing, but about 2 years ago. I worked at a hotel and someone asked how far along I was. I just smiled and said I wasn't, but thanks for asking. I am a little under 5', so even when I eat, I get the little bulge too. Chris calls it my "food baby" because it is always right after I eat.
  • Wow!  I didn't think that this sort of thing happened to so many of us.  I was kind of feeling like I'm the only one who has a weird belly that now sucks in fat. Stinks though that it seems Empire waist now = pregnant.  When did this happen?  Still I feel better and perhaps I will save said maxi dress for a few years (when it will be so out of style) for when I really AM pregnant.
