I just found out that a couple we know who are to be getting married at the end of the month may have to postpone their wedding.It seems the groom can not find his divorce papers.  No big deal,  you can just order a new copy right?Well it seems he does not know which state he got divorced from,  (seriously?).   He has ZERO idea where the ex even lives anymore.  He apparently does not have ONE single person to contact to even find out.While this all sucks, I really can not believe what an idiot this guy is not know something as simple as which state he got divorced in.btw - he did call a few states he thought might be where, but came up with nothing.  I wonder if he is really even divorced?  ummm

Whoa. That's ridiculous. Did he forget to ever get the divorce? I can't believe that he knows absolutely no one who could help him get in contact with his ex. One of my BMs b/fs married some girl so she could get her green card. I still don't think he's gotten the divorce yet and he's been with my BM for 2 years.

I'm fairly certain he is from Ohio.  I know he lived there before here.  But from what I'm gathering the ex is the one who filed and she moved to quite a few states during their seperation.  Apparently he just signed some papers and mailed them back.  It was 9 years ago and he says he can not remember where she lived at the time.I told him to do a back ground check on himself and that should bring up something.  You would think right?

absolutely. Actually, you can look yourself up on almost every state's supreme court website and it comes up with anything you've ever done legal wise. It's awesome.

Generally, the divorce would take place where they actually disolved the marriage, rather than in the state she moved to but whatever. If I was that FI, I would definitely be investigating.

How does one not remember where you or your future ex were living when the divorce happened?  It's not like it's a terribly quick process all the time.  I wonder if he even got the papers in the first place, and ditto if she even filed in the first place.  Stranger things have happened.

I agree it's very weird.  But then again they are a drama driven couple, so it's not all together surprising that there is more drama with their wedding.
