Half the bridal party is Pregnant

And I am a bridesmaid, too. Though, not a pregnant one. So, I am wondering where to have a bachelorette party? I'd like to start planning soon, so I am wondering where are the options? We all live in 3 different western states. It will take place in March. If there's any mom's out there, how do these places sound? - Coronado (near San Diego) - a 3-4 day Cruise (or would that be nauseating?) - Austin (bride suggestion) - Scottsdale (spa options) Any other ideas?? TIA

Re: Half the bridal party is Pregnant

  • Focus more on what to do rather than where to do it.  I know nothing about the areas that you posted.  Just try to minimize travel time for as many people as you can.  Don't do a B-party that focuses on alcohol or partying - it sucks being the person that can't drink while everyone else is getting sloshed.Spa days are always a good idea, maybe with a lunch before or after.  Cruise + morning sickness = bad.  Also, make sure you ask the other BMs what they are comfortable spending before you start making ANY plans.

  • The spa option sounds best to me. The 3-4 day cruise sounds really fun, but expensive.
  • I'd pick a central city and do a girls weekend: brucnh or lunch, manis/pedis, sporting event or show or concert, shopping, sight-seeing... If you're doing evenings, just pick locations that are smoke free.  In FL there are a lot of bars that don't allow smoking, so I really don't see the problem with pregnant women in smoke-free bars. GL!
  • If I were a preggo bridesmaid, I think I'd appreciate the spa the most.
  • How pregnant are they and can they (or are they willing to) travel?I'd probably skip the travel altogether, but I don't really think bachelor/bachelorette parties are a reason to lay out that kind of cash anyway.

  • I think a spa day would be really cool and something that everyone could participate in.
  • Wait.  Nvm.  You're all in different cities so someone is travelling anyway.

  • The spa sounds like a great option.  You could even pair it with a dinner afterwards or something.  Just see what the other bridesmaids are willing to spend or travel to.
  • A four day cruise for a bachelorette party?

  • I think the spa day sounds like the best option but I have a question about timing.  Persumably since the party is more than 6 months away, these women will either be VERY pregnant or with little, tiny newborns.  When are they due?
  • Yeah, I'd be curious to know how far along they will be in March because you have to realize that anyone in their 8th or 9th month of pregnancy or just having had a newborn won't be willing to travel for a bachelorette party and probably won't want one that's a whole weekend thing.  I would talk to them first and get their opinions and ideas and find out if they are willing to come to one central place for a b-party for the bride.  You may find that they can't or don't even want to come.

  • Ditto everyone else who said to talk to them and see if they'll be up for traveling at that time either being very pregnant or with a newborn. Personally, I would probably just skip it. A couple of my bridesmaids are pregnant/TTC, and they're not attending our bachelor/bachelorette party. It may just be easier for you to plan something local to the bride and see who all can show up. Or, if she's not from there and most of her friends are in her hometown, then go there and do something. It may be more of her friends who aren't in the WP at the bachelorette.

  • You def need to talk with the other girls in the WP to what they think is reasonable and feasible for them. If they need to be pitching in with the $$ then you need to find out what they can all contribute before making any final decisions.
  • I didn't pay attention to timing - I agree with PPs, if the BMaids are VERY pregnant or have newborns, they may not want to / be able to do anything. GL!
  • If they're all pregnant now, and the party is in march, won't they be too far along to travel at that point? A spa weekend in scottsdale sounds nice if you are all friends with each other, but everything sounds kind of expensive for a bachelorette party, especially for a bunch of expectant moms-to-be. Can you provide more details on how far along each person is and where they live?
  • Is this for your own bachelorette or the one where you're a bridesmaid? I think a cruise for a bachelorette is a bit over the top.  People would have to take extra time off of work, and I would assume they're already taking time off for the wedding.  It's also a bit expensive and a LOT to ask.
  • I think the spa sounds nice, too. All the girls are in agreement that they want to travel for the bride, and if they end up having difficult pregnancies, then they'll stay at home. They're all the type who will find any excuse for a vacation. So far, two just found out that they are pregnant (so due in May-June) and one is trying to be pregnant, so she MAY be pregnant at the time. There won't be any newborns YET. Am I missing out on any great places within the triangle of Mew Mex-Colorado-California?

  • Ditto others.  It feels like you are only thinking about the bach party, and not really being realistic about the fact most of them are pregnant.  I mean, plan whatever you want and people can afford, but do so kind of expecting all the preggos to not attend.  Even if they swear up and down now that they will want to come no matter what, its a whole different ballgame when they are nine months pregnant and miserable or have a new little baby at home.   I also don;t see soon-to-be-moms or new moms dropping a lot of money on airfare, hotels and spas for a party.    Unless they just have money to burn, they will probably want to save that kind of money for coming huge exspense of having a baby.  This too, is a thing that they may swear now they will want to do/spend on, but when it comes down to it, they won't.

  • I think if you want to plan something that's great, but be aware that plans may change as the date gets closer. So don't put too much $$ down on something where you may lose your deposit. The wisest course of action may be to plan this in January.
  • flying is usually not allowed in the last 6 weeks of pregnancy so time this if any of them have to fly.3-4 day cruise sounds life fun but I never cruised while pregnant so I don't know if it could cause nausea.Spa days are usually a good idea although pedicures (unless it's s specialist) aren't a good idea as there are pressure points in the foot that can trigger early labor.(dumb but true)What to do in Coronado?  All I can think of is sailing or drinking margaritas there ;)
  • I would also go for the spa idea. However, you may want to make sure the spa knows they are pregnant. If massages are involved, such as hand or feet reflexology, it is rumored to casue issues, sometimes it can cause uteran contractions. It can also be used to put overdue mothers in labor. I am a certified massage therapist and it is important for them to know.
  • I would shoot for a combination of several things - like pick a city and plan one night out for a fancy dinner and a day of spa treatments (whatever the individual girls choose), then brunch the next morning.  The ones who aren't pregnant can drink at dinner and brunch and those that are pregnant won't.  I can't imagine pregnant women wanting to go on a cruise.  If the bride suggested Austin, I would look into that first since it is for her after all.

  • Actually, the people who suggested moving the party back to January have a good idea. That could iron out some of the complications. Whatever you do, you should make Sure to has plenty of pizza and cupcakes on hand.

Wouldn't it be nice to live together in the kind of world where we belong?
  • Scottsdale....Marriott Camelback Inn. I live in Tempe and I've been there several times. Rooms are great...some are more like bungalows with a good size patio to have a party. Spa is GORGEOUS. Attendants are very nice, every possible amenity is provided for you. You can reserve cabanas at the spa pool, there's poolside wait-staff, and the view of the mountain is amazing. I think they still have these girls getaway deals going on. Go on the Marriott website and look it up. I've been to a few spas in the area, and that's my favorite (so far!) Oh, and March here is pretty good weather.
  • All sound like budget busters to me. Have you and other BM discussed budget? what is your budget for event. Also if very pregnant  ( ie 6+ months) flying is an issue can the pregant ones even fly to locations?  I woudl talk budget first and timing and then ideas that fit budget
  • What about Sedona, AZ?  It's gorgeous, has a famous spa nearby (mii amo, I think, although there are others), and lots of stuff to do that doesn't require a lot of partying.  I thought about planning a weekend trip there with a friend, but it fell through.  There are affordable hotels/inns in town, just search yelp.com.  It's about a 2-hr. drive from Phoenix, so I don't know how accessible that is, but it's in your general travelling vicinity.
  • If you're looking in NM/CO area, I would probably pick a spa or resort in CO, or maybe Flaggstaff (AZ). Scottsdale is still a hike from the corners, and would require travel/fying. I think that's your best idea for everyone to enjoy and not feel left out of part of the fun.I think all the ideas sound like they're fairly expensive though, so definitely check with the other BMs. Especially if you plan to cover the costs of the bride.
