**TheSaltyPeanut**

I saw your post in the pet thread. Is your greyhound a retired racer? My family adopted a greyhound 5 years ago and she's a retired racer. DH loves her and is trying to convince me to get one of our own someday.

  • She is! She raced a handful of times then they retired her because she was too slow. I never had a dog growing up, so I am biased, but she is the best dog in the entire world. She is so good, never had an accident, is sweet, doesn't go on furniture, etc. We don't know if she was abused or not (some from the track she was at were abused). We live in a condo and her temperament really fits our lifestyle. You should get one!

  • My family adopted ours after she broke her leg racing and wasn't fit to race any longer. She was 2 years old and looked so emaciated; her leg was infected as well. She really is one of the best dogs I've ever met - so docile, friendly, loving, not crazy or hyper. She loves running laps outside around my parents' house and then she comes in and crashes for a few hours! I have always had an affinity for Golden Retrievers, but I'd definitely consider rescuing a Greyhound too. There is a woman in CT who just got an award from Animal Planet for her work with rescued Greyhounds. My mom is considering getting another from her. We'll see what the next few years bring for DH and I. :)
