Well that sucks.

What a crappy way to find this out, splashed on the national news.http://tinyurl.com/om7yp8

Re: Well that sucks.

  • Totally crappy.  And hellraiser's comment infuriates me.
  • I read that.  How awful.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Nuggs, totally unrelated. But, what's your working out plans for the upcoming week?  Just checking up on you to keep your boo-tay accountable.I'm leaving for the gym as we type. Get moving chick! :)
  • LoL I'm horrible!  I have no plans for this week, but next week I'm back to Jazzercise, and the week after.  Beginning in October tho, I'm joining Noodle's gym (Lifetime Fitness) cuz our good friend is a manager there and is getting me a great deal.  So I am going to start taking classes there since they're free. Plus, they have a lot of different ones each day so I won't get bored.

  • wow.  those comments are so hurtful.  I really feel sorry for her.  I can't imagine going through this at any age, but especially as a teenager.
  • Good.  I'm glad to hear it.  I'll be following up.  Now, I have to read the post.
  • And the details of her condition makes me think that not only did she not know about it, but I highly doubt her parents or doctors did either.

  • Wow.  That's awful.  Perhaps they should've avoided releasing this to the media until AFTER they'd notified her.  Christ. On a cracker even.

  • The comments after the article about how her trainers must have known and therefore it was illegal make me feel stabby. If the testicles are inverted she and her doctors probably always just figured they were ovaries. WTF is wrong with people?I am actually curious as to whether or not she has a uterus. They didn't mention it in the article. It makes no difference to me, just curiosity, really. I feel so bad for this poor girl, having to live out this nightmare about her personal life/sexuality on the front page of the papers. This information should NEVER have been released without her knowledge and consent. I hate people, sometimes.

  • One article I just read said she did not have a 'womb'.  If that is the case then I'm surprised she would not have seen a doctor about not getting a period.

  • Im glad to hear you were able to get a deal on a membership nugget!

If that is the case then I'm surprised she would not have seen a doctor about not getting a period.I don't think it is uncommon for athletes at her level with such little body fat to not get their period.  I know back in my swimming days many of my competitors rarely if ever got their periods before age 18.
  • good point Kati..  I actually thought of that after I posted.

  • Yeah, most of the ballerinas I danced with only got their periods sporadically, if at all, due to low body fat. I was one of the lucky (sigh) ones who was heavy enough to get it regularly. That combined with leotards and tights = unhappy teenage girl.

  • So I wonder if she is chromosomally a man or a woman, XX or XY (or something else).  I feel bad for her either way.  I mean, she seriously probably didn't even know.  That sucks.
  • I'm curious about the X and Y chromosome situation.  Is she one of those people (can't remember the name of the condition) who are XXY?  How do you define that if male is XY and female is XX?

  • XXY = Klinefelter's syndrome. Doesn't quite sound like that but I LOVE how the media is exploiting this one. They even called her a hermaphrodite in one article which is completely ridiculous, not to mention hurtful. If she doesn't have ovaries and I remember embryology correctly then she doesn't have a uterus or the posterior 2/3 of her vagina. It makes me think androgen insensitivity syndrome except for the fact that she doesn't seem to be insensitive at all! Usually those patients are particularly womanly because all the extra testosterone is converted to estrogen. Any other ideas?
