time betwen ceremony and reception

Hey girls! This is my first post on this board! Hope you all can help me out! Ok, I will spare you the details but basically all I need to know is if it is ludicrous to make my guests wait at least 1.5 hrs between the ceremony and the reception. I know a lot of ppl have space between but I just feel like it might be rude to make my guests wait around. I really don't have any out of town guests so most people I ask said its not that big of a deal. The timing would work perfect for my wedding party and myself for pictures and driving around and whatnot, but I just would feel bad for my guests. The perfect solution would be a cocktail hour somewhere for them, but unfortunately this just isn't in the budget. Is this normal??

  • as long as your guests have something to do or something to eat, 1.5 hours won't be too bad.  but to expect them to just entertain themselves while you drive around and take pictures is rude.

  • This is definately different, but my make up artist told me that instead of a cocktail hour, they had milk and cookies. Their guests loved it and it was cheap!
  • The venue we are wanting has 2 petanque (sp) pits and a giant outdoor chess set, if its an outdoor grassy area maybe something like this could work? petanque sets are cheap. But you should have some food and drink. Even soft drinks and fruit platters would be ok in my book.
  • We have about a 2 hour gap...but most of our guests are OOT and could use this time to check into their hotels. Our wedding is also in a touristy area with many things for our guests to do during that time. I think the gap is fine as long as your guests have some place to go or something to do and aren't just sitting in their cars waiting
