Hairless Pusssy

Otherwise known as a Sphynx cat.  Anyone have one?  I have the opportunity to adopt one and was looking for personal experiences, not just google info :)

Re: Hairless Pusssy

  • Dont they have to wear sweaters cause they get cold? Thats just cruel (of nature).
  • My friend has one and named it Ichibod.

  • LOL I seriously started laughing before I even opened this. And I don't hink I have to tell you if I have a hairless pussy.
  • yes, they do have to wear sweaters when its cold out.  Mandy- what are your friend's thoughts on owning one?  Great name.
  • And here I thought this was going to be one of those TMI Brazilian waxing posts. No experience, but if I didn't have to vacuum cat hair off the stairs, I think that would be a very good thing.
  • I bet they're angry from being cold and exposed all the time.

  • I hear they are really good at cuddling and snuggling because they like body heat. and they can be hypoallergenic (though its skin that is the irritant) which is good.
  • I bet they're angry from being cold and exposed all the time. This just made it worse. All I can visualize is an angry pusssy.
  • I actually haven't talked to her since she got it.   So I don't know.  Sowwy.

  • I've only ever met one, it belonged to the owners of the pet store from my home town. It was kind of like the store mascot. It was a nice cat, quiet, but it did have a funny personality. If it didn't feel like being petted, it would just bite. I think that was just this particular cat's personality though, but I would investigate if it's some kind of trait to the breed (like siamese cats that are a one-person cat, not very people friendly - breed trait I believe.) I agree though, if I didn't have any cat hair to vacuum up, life would be good. Good luck!
  • Damn Mandy.  you got my hopes up;)  I'll have to google and see if their is a message board or something.
  • Anytime I think of one of those cats I think of that episode of Friends where Rachel pays an obscene amount of money for one. Did nayone see it? So funny.

  • Anytime I think of one of those cats I think of that episode of Friends where Rachel pays an obscene amount of money for one. Did nayone see it?Yes I did. But then again I like to live my life through Friend's quotes/referenes if possible.  Hairless cats kind of gross me out, although I've never actually seen one in person.
  • That episode of Friends is the best. She is convinced when it hisses it is saying Rachel! I love it....When I get home I think I might have to watch that one!OP: Sorry no experience with the naked kitty. There are days I wish my cats had no fur!
  • I was thinking of the Friends episode too. Just about every episode makes me giggle when I think about them.

  • a co-worker of mine used to rescue them. She said you have to be very vigilant about their skin care because they don't have the hair to protect them. It can get really oily and cause things like eye infections if not cared for properly. whomever you're adopting from should be able to tell you about their care, no?

  • rho- I'm sure they can. I just dont know the people personally.  I was looking for first hand experience. The skin care stuff ive read is that they need weekly baths due to their oily skin.
  • Fugliest cats ever. Possibly the fugliest pets ever... but then they would have to compete against those Mexican hairless fugly rat dogs. I wish this post were about what I thought it was about. That would be much more fun.

  • My parents had one when i was little.  It was psychotic.  It would chase my mom down the stairs and scratch and bite her until she bled.  They also stink b/c they are hairless.
  • A-D, then start it :) Ewww oily skin just grosses me out.

  • There is one that lives at my cat's vet clinic. Her name is Betty and she's the funniest thing. She doesn't wear a sweater, but they have a blanket set up behind the computer at the front desk and she burrows into it and makes a cave where she can stay warm.
  • I own a sphynx and also have a few patients at work that are sphynx cats, quite possibly the friendliest cats I have ever owned and worked with. Fairly talkative too! Lila loves to cuddle and is the first to greet anyone at the door. She does need periodic bathing, but she is so used to it at this point all she does is sqeak about it.I always wanted one and adopted Lila a few years ago, from my experience I will always want to have at least one I love this cat so much!
  • I was thinking of the hissing Rachel thing too! :) That and Joey asking,"Why is it turned inside out?!" I love that show.
