I need inspiration

I just got back from a vacation and now i really need to get down to business planning our honeymoon.  We want to stay in the US.  We both like history and architecture, I love to take pictures and FI is not a beach or sports sorta guy.Anyone have any unique ideas? In other news: I missed out on the whole bride bages thing so I made my own.

  • I hear Fargo is pretty architecturally diverse. Just sayin'.

  • Alaska. It doesn't really have muchof either..but c'mon...its Alaska
  • Maybe San Antonio? Lots of history there and I thougt it was beatiful.

  • DC is the first thing that comes to my mind. Lets not forget its a thriving city, not just a school field trip.  Aside from all the touristy things, there are great hotels, restaurants, museums and shopping.  Boston?  New York?

  • It IS a beach area, but St. Augustine, FL is actually really pretty. The city itself has a lot of its old building's in tact, and there's lots of walking and trolley tours. Very scenic, very interesting history.Other than that I keep coming up w/ the "typical" places like Williamsburg, VA; Gettysburg or Philadelphia, PA; and Boston, MA.Also, not sure if there is really ANYTHING else in the areas aside from the main attraction, but Mt. Rushmore and the Hoover Dam meet the architecture/history/photo-op requirements.Best of Luck!

  • I went on vacation to Eureka Springs Arkansas a couple years ago.  The Victorian architecture was awesome, and they had some really cool 1920s parlour style hotels that were super awesome.
  • CHICAGO!There is an absolutely fantastic architectural boat tour downtown.  It will be really fuucking cold in December, though.  There is a lot of fun stuff to do that time of year in town, though--and the Field Museum is fabulous if you love natural history.

  • Fische, you know if I vacation in Fargo it'll ruin all other vacations for me.  Nothing could ever match up to Fargo.Boston was suggested by FI as one stop on maybe a historic New England type tour.Alaska was also mentioned and maybe a cruise would be cool.  We are postponing our honeymoon until the weather is a bit warmer.  Probably late April.
  • Oh, forgot about Chicago. That's actually what I will cast my vote for now. The food is amazing, and the city is beautiful.

  • Also, we are 95% sure we are honeymooning in Vail, CO.  We're not super outdoorsy, but we're taking the money we'd spend on airfare and staying at a swanky hotel.  We plan on doing some light sightseeing and pampering ourselves most of the time.

  • Oh true, Definitely do not go to Alaska in the winter..
  • Brie is right.  Chicago field musuem is the shiit.  I had no idea they had Egyptian artifacts there before I went... and they had an entire tomb rebuilt inside the musuem.  Best museum I've ever been to.
  • East: I love DC!  I've done it too much back when I lived in NJ.  Too many familiar haunts there to be new and exciting.  The Brickskeller for instance.
  • New Orleans? I've never been there but I really want to go.

  • I agree with DC. It's where we went on our HM, and it was amazing. I'm a huge history buff, and I thought it was one of the coolest trips I've ever been on. Plus, besides all the history/architecture, the food was amazing. I'd also recommend the Odyssey dinner cruise. You get to see the city at night from the shore - gorgeous!
  • Right now D.C.'s transit to getting to The Mall is really terrible.  Because of the metro accidents people are leery of riding it, so the streets are packed with cars more than usual.  Also, the metro keeps having closings to do investigations for the accidents.  I visited in July and it was a cluster fuuck.  My FI's uncle lives there and he says its still ridiculous.
  • New Orleans - history, architecture, etc. Alaska - just beautiful. Juneau is lovely!
  • IMetYou - DH and I live in Arkansas (just moved here a year ago) and haven't been to Eureka Springs.  Perhaps we'll have to check it out now!

  • ooh so many choices.  New Orleans is amazing (although I went before Katrina, so I'm not sure what all has changed :( ) - Boston & Chicago are also amazing places - if you want something more "quaint" I would recommend Savannah, Georgia - it is beautiful.
  • You could go tour civil war battle sites or something.  I recall Cory being a history buff.

  • He does enjoy old battle sites.  i like them too but I need a bit more picture inspiration than an old field that once took part in a war.  Lots of places to consider
  • Hawaii! That surely has a lot of history and would be great in the winter. :)
    image
  • Haha hawaii was going to be my second suggestion.
  • And contrary to popular belief, it IS part of the US. ;)
    image
  • Yes! Same with Alaska...we always get forgotten.
  • Sucrets- Yeah, if you check it out try and stay at the Crescent Hotel.
