Yes you, apparently missed putting a J in there. It's working with profoundly mentally retarded, low functioning adults in a permanent residence house. 6 of them, men and women. It's not exactly what I was looking for, but since it's within the State human services system, I figure I can switch to a CD or MI position somewhere else if I want to.I was just curious if you had worked for the state and what you thought of it.
Interesting point, Cari. I know what you mean (kinda) because I was a lifeguard (totally not the same as a firefighter, but bear with me here, ok?), and I was definitely in some situations where training and instinct took over and after I calmed down, I looked back and said "Holy crap, I DID WHAT?" In one case, it was holding the pieces of a woman's scalp together while we waited for the ambulance. When I thought about it after, I literally threw up and felt like I was going to pass out. But during, my training and instinct took over, much like you described. But I still stand by my earlier point that there is someone, somewhere who wouldn't.Mocha, I've known lots of state employees, and I've never heard too many bad things. It sounds like a good way to get your foot in the door, plus I bet the benefits rock.
Yeah, the benefits seem to kick butt.Cari has a good point too. When the adrenaline kicks in, you don't think, you just do, you do whatever it takes to accomplish the goal, whether that's saving someone from a burning building or saving yourself from a crazed killer. I'm always amazed at the stories that I hear about what people have done under the influence of adrenaline, like picking up a 400 pound gun from a battleship mount by yourself to shoot down planes (at least, that's I think what I heard somewhere sometime).
J&K that's exactly what I mean. I bet you didn't even have to think about what you needed to do, you just did it because all of your training had become instinct. I don't think most people would premeditate murder, but I think given the right situation you could get anyone to react violently and lead to murder. In the grand scheme of things so few murders are premeditated. So many are a result of a situation that escelated and someone ended up getting killed.Totally off subject but kind of funny, my mom doesn't have adrenal glands so she can't get an adrenaline rush. I want to do experiments with her like lie detector tests and rollercoasters.
That would be really interesting! It's actually scary to look back, because my memories of what happened when I had to act were like trying to remember the night before when you had had too much to drink. Like I'd remember basic things--oh the woman slipped in the showers and hit her head on the handle to turn it on. But I didn't remember details. Then someone would make a comment about all the blood and it would come back to me, fuzzy and almost surreal, and it was SO weird.
I refuse to believe that Ghandi would kill anyone. capable? Yes. But I don't think he'd do it. Or the duggars. I do'nt think they'd kill people, either. Me? Hells yes. In the right circumstancances of life, death and survival of myself or my loved ones? I think I could do it. supercalifragilisticexpealodocious.
Although most people would like to think that they are capable of killing, I've found that quite a few people are not. Even when faced with a kill or be killed situation, many people automatically prefer the potential flight solution over the fight solution.
Fishy I gotta disagree about the Duggars. Anyone who treats their vag like a clown car has a good dose of crazy inside, maybe even crazy enough to kill.......
