What is the point...

...in engagement photos?  I know that some people use them for STDs or announcements in the paper, but wouldn't a few good shots on your mom's digital camera do the same thing?  I'm having them done because it's part of the package our photog is doing, otherwise I just wouldn't bother to have them done.  What else do people use these for?

I wouldn't have paid extra for them but I was glad our photog included them in our package because it gave us a chance to get to know her and her shooting style better.  I think this is why a lot of photogs include it.

I asked the same question a couple of weeks ago. They are a big waste to me. Most people say that they were included in their package. What the hell am I going to do with all those pictures when we have ONE THOUSAND wedding pictures. I don't get it. We took one to put in the paper. Das it.

I personally think they're kinda stupid.  But, from talking to others, I guess a lot of people like to have pics of them "before-marriage".  So that when you get fat and ugly a few years later you can look back on the good years.I saw some of a friend of a friend this weekend- yikes.  They were aaaaawful.  I'm not doing them.

Mine are included in the package and we wouldn't do them if they weren't included. We aren't doing STDs, so they are kind of a waste. Maybe one will be cool and we can frame it.

I am having them done also. Mostly because I want some control over some of at least a little bit of the photography aspect of our engagement/wedding and I don't get to pick the wedding photographer (we have to use the one provided by the resort). I am so in love with the style of the people that are doing ours that we are driving to Ohio to have them taken.

Ours were a part of our package too, and while I got some use out of them on STDs and stuff, it was also a chance to sort of "audition" our photographer--he let us pay for the e-pics a la carte and then apply it toward the package. It was also just nice to have some quality pictures of the two of us together. Somehow, after six years together, we have very few decent shots of the two of us together. My club board did a then-and-now siggy challenge. I sat out not only because I hate siggy challenges, but because I couldn't find a pic of us from back then.

I think people use them as their chance to be the model they never were or never will be.

my SIL took them at the beach, it was gift, and she also made one into a canvas (below) and made a collage to put by the gift table. other than that yes i agree its a waste of time and money.

We did them because we're big narcissists and love photos of ourselves.  Seriously, there are photos of us all over the apt. We also took them to get to know our photog better.  Mostly it was the narcissist thing though.

They were included in our package... It is nice to have some pics of us that we are sober in. Most of our pics are from when we are out with friends. It was also nice to work with the photographer before the wedding. If they weren't included we probably wouldn't have paid for them, we would have just had C's dad take some pics of us to use for the paper and whatnot

We're using them on STDs, and our photo card box and maybe guestbook.But yeah, they were included in our package and our photog won't reduce the price if she doesn't do them.  So, what the hell.

We included an engagement pic in our invites, plus we have like no pictures of us together, so I wanted some for that as well. A friend did them for us as a gift to us, too.

They were included in the photographer's package, about 75 shots.The paper requires the wedding announcement to be submitted 6 weeks in advance so the best picture went for that.plus 1400 wedding pictures, I haven't a clue why

I guess it's kind of nice to have pictures in a more casual setting, but honestly I think they're kind of a waste.  Our photog gave us the option, but we decided against them because scheduling became a pain.

I agree with everything fische said.  Some people use them to make their guest book photobook, but we did one with pictures of us over the time we've been together as a couple which I think is more fun because it shows us over the years instead of just one day.  We didn't have any done.

We didn't do e-photos.  I guess they're nice and all, but it honestly didn't cross my mind.

I still can't come up with an answer to this, which makes it difficult to try to convince FI that we should do them.I'd never heard of them until TK.  We have like hundreds of photos of us looking happy together that we use in frames anytime we need them.  I don't need a pro to take more.

Also, I didn't feel like buying MORE clothes and wearing matchy-match outfits because apparently that's what people do.  And then paying for more prints.

One reason we did them was to include some pics with my two stepsons.  We really had no good pictures of the four of us together, and it nice to have some professional ones taken that weren't all posed like Olan Mills or something.

I don't get the engagement photo thing either, but then again, I don't get the idea of most photos. I'm killing myelf with the idea that I need to find a good photographer. I don't do pictures... I have like 3 of FI and I since we've been together. Whatever

We have NO pictures of us together, at all. I know we'll get a ton from the wedding, but we'd like some that are more casual as well, just to have some pictures of us together.Also, we want pictures of us and the dog, and he won't be coming to the wedding.Alsoalso, we may use a cousin who is trying to build his portfolio and get them for free or really cheaply.Alsoalsoalso, I consider it practice for having cameras pointed at me on the wedding day, I usually find that to be very upsetting.Alsoalsoalsoalso, like most things I do for my wedding or in life in general, what someone ELSE thinks is a waste of money doesn't really matter 'cause it's not their money.

I have absolutely no money for engagement photos.  My cousin is a photographer, we're thinking of asking her to maybe take some nice pictures of us, just for the marriage announcement my mom is hell-bent on sending out to our local paper (since we're getting married OOT), but if that doesn't happen, we're skipping them altogether.

I actually wanted to get some pro photos done of my H and I for a christmas card.  Then he proposed so we did "engagement" photos instead.

We take tons of photos together, but they're always the SAME shot. Either 1) myspace style where one of us is holding the camera or 2) we're just side by side in the same pose or making goofy faces.So we took e-pics in the place we met for sentimental reasons and because we had too many weird face photos.

We did it bc I like to have shrines of myself and FI all over the place.They were included in the photography package.

My package came with bridal portraits, which I passed on. He gave me some extra stuff instead. I could not fathom the thought of putting my dress on and doing my hair/make-up a second time (especially since it was during the summer in NOLA). We did not do engagement photos. The thought of me and H in unnatural poses around town just did not sound like us, to me.

We would have had a friend do them on their digital camera also if it hadn't been included in our wedding package. Also, it did really help get to know our photographer and made me more comfortable in front of the camera. I have a terrible problem with blinking so our photographer knew what to expect the day of the wedding.

They are use or keepsakes for the couple and or rents/ grandrents, bt you are right, a nice digital camera would do the trick just as well.

Ours were included in our photographer's cost - and we used the photo we liked for our signature mat.All cameras and photographers are not equal.  A great photographer with a great camera captures some fantastic photos.  Plus, it's nice to have some professional shots of DH and me not in wedding attire.
