Work related question -WWYD?

There are 2 long term sub positions for teachers due late Sept. You go on an interview. You go on a second interview the day after the first. The principal tells you to e-mail him to set up a new interview. You do, he doesn't respond. You send another in 3 days. No response. You call two days later. Secretary tells you he's not ready to interview and that he will call you. It's been two weeks since the seoncd interview and nothing. End of Sept. is approaching. Problem: You have a 2nd option for long term subbing, but it's not quite as long and not as good pay, but it's yours if you want it right now. Do you take the 2nd one and and risk missing out on the other (better) sub position.

  • totally. Go with what you know is going to come through. If you have to do another interview - that means you're still competing against other people. Take the job you know is yours.
  • I would call back to the first and let him know that you have another offer on the table, but you're more interested in his position. See if he can give you a firm timeline and talk to you about your chances for the job.If not, I'd say he's not interested and you should take the second.I wouldn't pass up a decent job in this economy.

  • The principal told me that "things looks really good for you." So he got me all hopeful, but he hasn't responded to e-mail or phone in two weeks since the 2nd interview, which was right after the first. It irritates me.
  • Mrs. Vogt is right--tell them about the other opportunity, but that you would prefer this position.  If that doesn't push them to move, take the other job.
  • In this economy, take the job that is certain. Then send him a thank you note for considering you, explain that you had to take another offer, but hope he will keep you in mind for future openings.
  • ditto MoneyPennytell principal about the other opportunity now.  If you have no reply in 3 days, take the other
  • You don't think letting him know about the other opportunity would just lead him to think, "Well, if she's got another job, why interview her?"
  • sounds like there may be something going on in the school - maybe some personnel shifting or something else internal he has to handle before he can complete interviews externally. agree with pps.

Do not mess in the affairs of dinosaurs because you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
  • Ditto Longboat.

  • If someone wants you Sarah, they're not going to think that. If we hear that someone has another job offer and they're near the top of our list, that makes us move faster. If it's someone we didn't want to hire anyway, it's not that big of a deal.Competition for you makes you look like an even better candidate. It will either push him to move forward (or at least give you a straight answer on why he's not), or it will show you that they're not really interested without you having to wait for that awkward phone call or letter in the mail two weeks from now.

  • I would follow up with a formal thank you letter, if you haven't already, stressing your interest in the position. Include a definitive schedule of when you would like to meet ("I am available on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. or Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. to further discuss how this position will utlize my education and experience. Kindly contact me via phone at _____. I look forwarding to meeting with you once again....") If the dates you provide in your letter pass without response, you need move on and take the other job.
