NWR tar clean up

Ok, I posted this on the cleaning and organizing board on the nest....no reply. How do you remove tar? It's on my dryer so I don't want to use anything combustible. Right now I'm heating up the dryer w/ nothing in it and scrubbing it when it's soft. I'm exhausted and looking for something easier....  Help?

Re: NWR tar clean up

  • Your clothes dryer?I wouldn't try myself, call the manufacturer for advice
  • The only thing I know of is lighter fluid, (like for a Zippo lighter) which is obviously combustible.  If you use that and then maybe wash it really thoroughly with soap and water?  That would be my only suggestion.
  • greese lighting will work.  I would spray it on a rag instead of directly on the dryer drum.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • acetone based nail polish remover
  • When I worked at a car wash, we used WD40 to remove tar from cars.  You soak a rag with it and then let it sit on the tar for a few minutes. it scrapes right off after.  then clean the spot with windex to stop the flammability. As soon as it's dry it's safe again.
