Hmm...thanks for the advice...

but no thanks!I was talking to some workmates today and mentioned that I was saving for my honeymoon, even though its not for a couple of years (trip of a lifetime=expensive). One woman responded with "Oh, just write on your invite that you want money towards the honeymoon instead of presents! They have little poems online so you can ask nicely".She then said that it was OK because thats what she had done. Seriously?Anyone else wanna vent about crazy wedding advice they have been given?

  • FMIL  recommended drink tickets. And some people keep pushing the dollar dance, including fi.

  • I've had over 5 people tell me about the honeymoon registry. Members of FI's family, my family, family friends, members of the BP.
  • To not serve any alcohol because one guest was an alcoholic. Um, yes, I'll have people flying in from MEXICO to a CATHOLIC wedding with no alcohol... Sure, that'll go over great!
  • Oh and for about a week after that Chris Brown "forever" bridal party entrance was made famous my mum was insisting we enter the ceremony like that...
  • So where is the trip you are planning?
  • "You should just elope! I had my big fancy wedding and have since decided it wasn't worth it, so obviously you should skip yours and just elope!"At LEAST once a week.
On bed rest since Groundhog's Day and every day since has been exactly the same.

  • Mrslesgrossman- Its in my bio, but pretty much from LA, up and across the States and Canada, over to the UK and the to Europe. I'm from New Zealand, and there is a tradition called an OE (overseas experience, don't know if it is big in the states too) where you do a huge overseas trip, so we are doing that instead of a traditional honeymoon. Its a once in a lifetime kinda thing :) Its a backpackers and on the cheap trip. I'm very excited, I have the travel bug baaaaaaaaaaaad.
  • I did the same after the Israeli army and again when we met.  I met a lot of people from Oz and NZ on my travels so I totally get it.  I did a year half with him, half on my own before I moved back for grad school.  I recommend using a round the world ticket and try booking a trip or two with GAP.  I know how excited you are and you're probably addicted to thorntree and trip advisor.
  • Mrs- Yes I am very excited, its dream trip. I've always wanted to travel around the states. I haven't seen those sites, off to check them out now :)
  • I got the same advice to 'just go and elope'.  Umm . . . no.  I did that the first time and always regretted it.  That's why I planned exactly what I wanted this time.
