VENT- Bad haircut

So, I have a little over 3 months until my wedding. Today I made the HORRIBLE, STUPID decision to go and get my hair trimmed by someone who has never cut my hair before. I mean, it's just a trim, right? Wrong. She completely jacked my hair up! I specifically told her just to trim it, and when she asked if she wanted me to have her cut the layers, I said, "Just trim everything a little bit." I left without getting it dried or styled because it was $10.00 more and I figured that since I was heading home I could do it myself. Another mistake. The layers are all really step-like and just look awful. I am going to get it fixed tomorrow, meaning have a good amount of it chopped off because of what it looks like now. I have been growing my hair out in order to wear it down for the wedding and just got through a really awkward length for my face. I am SO pissed! Sorry for the novel, but I have a couple of questions. Should I go to the same place and ask someone else to fix it? And if I do, what is the protocol for tipping? Or should I just avoid the place altogether? My mom regularly goes there and her hair looks great, which is why I decided to. TIA.

Re: VENT- Bad haircut

  • I made the mistake in college of going to Supercuts to save a few bucks. The girl butchered my hair and for $20, I'm not sure what the hell I was expecting. I ended up going elsewhere to get it fixed, because the layers were very choppy - it looked like I had 2 different hair cuts! It cost me $60 to fix it at a more reputable salon, so I guess my idea of saving money bit me in the asss.If you aren't happy with it, you can go back and ask her to fix it. However, if you have no confidence in her ability to do so, I'd go elsewhere. Why not ask a friend or family member who they go to and if they like them?

  • Yeah, you tend to pay for whta you get. I'd have to see it but it is possible to blend the layers and not have more length taken off- I'd first see if the new hairdresser could do that. If it really looks awful- as in lack of skill- and you care enough, you could easily go demand your money back. But yes, go to your regular hairdresser or someone reputable and ask them to fix it and tip like you would normally tip a hairdresser.
  • Nope. Don't go back there ever again.
  • I guess I will have to find someone new. I recently moved back with my parents until the wedding in order to save money, and I don't have a regular person in the area. I guess it's time to do research on a better salon and, sadly, an updo.

  • meganbear, that icon is hypnotic.  I had to stand here on my way to bed and watch the whole thing.

  • ThePinkSuperhero- It's funny you mention that. I don't post often, but almost everytime I do, someone brings up my icon. I enjoy it, and I'm glad other people do as well! :)

  • I would grow out the layers until a week before your wedding and then have your regular lady cut it.  To get super steep layers out they are going to have to cut alot off.  It has happened to me a bunch of times.  I would grow it out first.
  • I had the exact same kind of horrible hair cut courtesy of a cheap mall place when I was a broke student. I didn't have the $ to fix it so I wore my hair pulled back in a pony tail with a headband and bobby pins to keep all the short layers in place for about 6 weeks. 3 months is a good amount of time to grow out a bad haircut. If you're willing to wear it pulled back every day, maybe you can let it grow out on its own?
  • I don't mean to sound like a biitch...but I don't really feel sorry for you. Why can't you go to your regular stylist? Or at least the same salon? I got to the same salon, religiously. Everyone there knows me, and I'm sure everyone there at one point has cut my hair...I have yet to be disappointed when I can't get in with my usual stylist.

  • Thanks everyone. I actually don't have a problem wearing my hair up, so I might try to grow it out for a while. Pumpkin- I recently graduated from college and moved in with my parents until the wedding in order to save money. My regular stylist is 3 hours away, so I just went to the place my mom goes. She has never had any problems, and it was only a trim. I have most definitely learned my lesson though.
