Making up your mind

Does anyone else find it's almost impossible to finalize anything wedding related? For me it's the details. I have my venue, DJ, Photographer, and Cake- but when it comes to the tablecloths, flowers, decorations, favors, and all that other stuff I am HORRIBLE at making my mind up. Every time I think I've hit the nail on the head- give it an hour and I'll change my mind. Today it's flowers. What about you guys?

Re: Making up your mind

  • yes, yes, YES!!!  It's the details for me too.  Paper products are the worst for me.  I cannot commit because I'm trying to find something perfect.  I'm on oncewed right now looking at paper products for inspiration.
  • I didn't really have trouble deciding things. Refusing to waffle took a lot of stress out of the planning.

  • I'm leaving tablecloths up to our venue, along with centerpieces, serving sets, etc.Flowers - I am having all white flowers so that is easy peasy.Favors - not having them.

  • I make decisions fairly easily.  Then I second guess the sh*t out of every choice I made until Noodle or my MOH or my mom want to punch me in the mouth.

  • So far, I haven't had this problem too much. I've been engaged for a year already and I have two more years to go, and I spend a lot of time fantasizing about wedding stuff when I am supposed to be doing other things. I have a feeling that when the time comes to actually choose stuff, I will know what I want.

Wouldn't it be nice to live together in the kind of world where we belong?
  • There's only one thing that I keep going back on forth on, that's napkin colour.  I kind of wanted green napkins because everything else on the table is white and I thought that they would bring some colour into the room. It's proving to be a hard colour to match though, not having the napkins in hand, and I don't want my stationery colour (menus) to be too far off.  So then I started thinking I'd just do white napkins.I'm putting way too much thought into this one silly detail obviously.
  • I went back and forth on a couple of items, not everything. At some points, I just threw my hands up and chose.
  • I look around till i find a few things I like and then just decide, if for whatever reason it does not work the way i want it too then i do something else.   I find it easier just to pick and not hemhaw about it.
  • not really.   but when I made a decision I stuck to it.  I forced myself not to even looked at any other options so I would not second guess myself.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • oh wait you are more than a year out?  I didn't make any of those choices until a few months out. There is no really need to make them any longer out.

  • I feel your pain. There have only been a couple of sticky points for me in this process, but today its the dress! Two and a half weeks out and I want a new one. Darn it.
  • I knew someone was gonna point that out, hehe. We are trying to space out the payments for everything as much as we can and because we are also doing as much as we can DIY I would rather not wait to the last second to do everything. Nothing is set in stone yet when it comes to flowers- mostly because I can't make up my mind at all. I know I want silk/natural touch flowers because I want to be able to keep the bouquet forever. I know the style I want- cascading and I have SOME idea of what I want it made out of. But not completely. I don't know the first thing about flowers except that they are pretty. Today is mostly about sitting down and gathering inspiration images so I can find someone able to mimic the idea in false flowers. But it's not even just the flowers- it's everything. Until I pay for it I'm second guessing it. There are only a few things detail wise that I KNOW exactly what I want. I think what bothers me most is once I know exactly what it is I want it suddenly seems impossible to find. But it must be out there because I've seen it done already!
  • Most of our decisions we've been pretty set on.  It helps that FI had brought up the idea of a black and white wedding before we even talked about our own wedding, and I never considered another option.  Most people here don't really like overly theme-y weddings, but I think having some kind of guideline for the whole event--color palette, theme, motif, vibe--can really help with some of that indecision, because you can eliminate right away anything that doesn't fit. That said, I'm having the damnedest time with my own accessories.  It took months to track down the right shoes (which still need to be painted), I still haven't found jewelry I like, and the less said about my headpiece, the better.  I'm normally not fashion-conscious, but I just keep having issues here.Oh, and as far as flowers go, there are plenty of options for fake flowers besides silks.  Fabric, wood, paper, leather, felt...  I've seen some really fantastic options.  I'm making all of mine out of paper, it's cheap and pretty easy too.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
