Old lady hobbies.

I recently discovered that I absolutely love putting together puzzles.  I finished one with kittens yesterday and have been working on a still life with lots of teacups and tulips today. I got 5 500 piece puzzles at Walgreens for $4.99. I'm set for a while.  I also love to knit, but I have a bad habit of not finishing things, and I can only do scarves.  Anyone else have any old lady hobbies? And I am in no means trying to make fun of said hobbies, I love them, they just remind me of my grandma :)

Re: Old lady hobbies.

  • I love puzzles! And I love embroidering
  • My secret shame is that I'm working on a paint by number that looks like our dog.
On bed rest since Groundhog's Day and every day since has been exactly the same.

  • I LOVE puzzles.  Unfortunately, I have the patience of a hungry infant with a poopy diaper, so my love for puzzles lasts about 15 minutes.

  • I crochet. I picked it up as a stress-relief tool. I find it very soothing.
  • FI and I love to do puzzles too! I have no sewing abilities at all, or crocheting, but I would love to learn.
  • I also love puzzles.  I recently finished one with Winnie the pooh, it was one of those that is made up of a bunch of scenes.  I also enjoy cross sticking and I have recently started quilting.
  • I play bingo like there is no tomorrow.  I am usually the youngest (27) one there, but they have accepted me.  Not really a hobby, but def. old lady like.

  • I take naps and drive like an old man.

  • Chloe and I do puzzles all the time! In college, I was SuperDORK and did the 3D puzzles. I love to crochet, knit, do crosswords, ribbon needlepoint and I collect owls. Holyfuck I'm 80 years old!
  • I also love to build puzzles. It's a good pastime. I think I do it a little bit too much though, I let myself get to the point where I could build a 1,000 piece puzzle in a few hours. Wedding stuff has been distracting me from my puzzle-building as of late, however,
  • Yay I'm glad I'm not alone! DH made fun of me at first, particularly since the first one was kittens, but then he helped me finish it :)  I want to learn to crochet too, I wonder if I can find a place that offers classes?

  • Oh and the other exciting thing is that I actually finish puzzles!! I never finish anything. I love scrapbooking but haven't even finished my college one yet. I love knitting but am still working on a scarf I started last November.  I gave up after 1 batch of freezer jelly.  But puzzles have to be finished, otherwise I have no usable coffee table!

  • I can teach you tlv! You'll have to visit NC, and bring vodka.
  • I LOVE crochet and have two projects I just started for my on-the-way niece, but can't knit (two handed coordination eludes me...). I love crossword puzzles and sudoku. If FI and I had a place to do jigsaw puzzles (ahem, if we'd clean off the damn kitchen table), I think we'd both enjoy that over the winter. I have several of them - I haven't done them in ages. I'm an avid reader - at least I used to be - but what I read is WAYYYY different than both of my grandmothers (one reads Western-style novels, one read - well, read - the Mitford series type books and romance novels). I also like crafts and have a big stash of cross-stitch, needlepoint, silk flowers, glues, wreath adornments, acrylic paints, watercolors, canvasses, etc. An easel, too, which is still in the box....

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
  • Ha that sounds like a good plan!

  • Does wearing Depends count?
  • I try to knit, but unfortunately, I fail miserably :(
  • I do crossword puzzles, love to bake holiday cookies by the gross and have a thing for latchhook rugs. People beg me to make them as decorations for their babies rooms.
  • tlv, you don't really need a class to learn basic crochet; though if you want to take on any advanced projects, it certainly wouldn't hurt to have some kind of mentor. I learned from a book. It was mildly frustrating, and FI and I had to caucus about "what the book wants me to do" with every new skill, but I'm past that now :)
  • I knit as well! I also like crossword puzzles, embroidering and sewing. Weird thing, I don't think either of my grandmothers knitted or embroidered. Maybe they sewed, but not enough to remember it.

  • Oohh, I used to do the latchhook rugs!!!! I haven't done one in ages. I always want to order one of those really intricate kits from the Herrschner's catalogs with the filigree and flowers, etc. that will take ages. But, I figure I'll get distracted and put it down.... Oh yeah, and I collect the Tom Clark gnomes. I like Willow Tree figurines and some of the Jim Shore stuff (just bought Terry the Terrier - looks like my dog), but have done Tom Clark for ages.

  • Missy - I have one of those Willow Tree things. It's an Angel that my mom got me when my son was born. It's one of the few inanimate objects that I would try to save from a fire.
  • Really? I just assumed it would be hard to learn something like that from the book. I learned very basic knitting from a friend and have tried to learn new stitches and projects from books, but I can never figure out their pictures :)  Maybe after all of our house stuff settles down I'll give it a shot!

  • I am very, very old but have no old lday hobbies yet. Can't even sew on a button without bleeding all over it :(I have always been a writer though. Want to see my poems?not on a bet :P
  • My grandma taught me how to quilt.  I have made two quilts, a twin size that I used all through college, and a queen size that turned out WAY more country than I wanted so it's in a box until I figure out what to do with it.  I have pieces all cut our for a 3rd.  I haven't started putting them together though.
  • I enjoy crossword puzzles, latch hook wall hangings/rugs, puzzles, and I crotchet (blankets and purses mostly). In college my friends and I had knitting night. One night there's 4 of us, all 22-20 knitting/crotching blankets, the next we're getting wasted. Ah college...
  • I could work crossword puzzles for hours.

  • I crochet and knit. I actually love crocheting ... if I will actually make a scarf just to make something.
