Save the Date and Registering

So, this has probably been asked about a million times, but.... What is an average guideline for sending save the dates? We're getting married in May and a lot of our guests will be out of town. The wedding is on memorial day weekend. Also, when is a good time to register for our gifts? I don't want to do it too early but I want to give my guests a sufficient amount of time to be able to look over what we have chosen. TIA!

Re: Save the Date and Registering

  • *coughgooglecough* STD's 6-8 months before, invites 6-8 weeks before; registering- anytime before your first shower, also about 6 months prior to wedding date
  • STDs usually 6-9 months before the wedding, no more than 12 months.  For a holiday weekend like you have, you probably want to go closer to 8-9 months.Invitations go out 6-8 weeks before the wedding. You can pretty much register anytime.  We registered about 10 months before the wedding.  Just check it often to be sure that things don't get discontinued, so if they do, you can replace them with something else.Don't mention your registries in your wedding invitations.  The proper places for that is the shower invitation and the wedding website if you have one, otherwise just word of mouth.

  • Because all of my guests are out of towners, I sent mine at 10months.
  • I have the same situation, but wedding date week before Memorial Day weekend. Sending mine out the end of this month :)Good luck.
  • Thank you ladies... I'm getting ready to order them sometime this week and mail them end of the month I'm glad to know I'm on an okay time frame... We do have a website that's a great suggestion about not putting registry information in with an invitation, so I'll make sure and let people know to check out the website for information, a lot of people have already asked us too. THANKS!
  • If your OOT guests are not that far away, you could just send them in christmas cards. We are getting married in May 2011 and will be sending them out with next years christmas cards.
