:Lynda::

I just recently booked a cruise for our HM. We are going to Nassau, St. Thomas and St. Marteen. I've been to the last two. While I loved St. Marteen, I didn't really care for St. Thomas. I was also just 19 at the time and hadn't really gone anywhere by that point. I think I might be able to get a little more out of it this time, other than just thinking the iguanas were cute... What would you reccomend doing? What is your boat cruise like? How long and how much? I'm not sure how long we'll be docked there... Thanks for any info.

  • Email me at lyndausvi at yahoo. If you are not scared i will show you a good time ( not in a weird way) Mrs E and Ivy have met me and have lived to tell about it. If you are scared (and I get why) I will yell you where to go.

  • Lynda might scare you with too much booze and good times.  Run, far away from her.  There is a lot to do in St Thomas and your options really depend on how long you are there.  IMO, St Thomas is a thousand times nicer than St Maarten and Nassau.  Lynda's boat does not dock at the cruises, it is on another property.  They have different trips on different days, some half day, some full day, and some sunset.  We did a full day St John- shopping, lunch at Caneel Bay, and then snorkeling, open bar and snacks.  We also did the sunset, a very nice trip with open bar and hors d'ouevres.  There are some really amazing snorkeling and diving locations with wreck dives if you are PADI.  I really like snorkeling at Secret Harbor, we saw a lot of interesting things- lobster, barracuda, sting rays, squid, sea turtles, and many fish.  The bar has pretty good food, we were always served fast but Lynda says there are slow times, for us- fast drinks slow food.  Stay away from anything the ship says to do.
  • E, I tried SCUBA, it's not for me. I really enjoyed the snorkling. We aren't wanting to do anything the ship has to offer, we like finding our own things to do. I'm up for a good time, as long as I can physically make it back to the ship in time...I do remember lots of cheap booze and being very excited that one one cared about the drinking age there. Sorry, I would respond more, but I've already forgotten what you've posted. I'll go back and read more!

  • You are fine snorkeling the whole time.  Secret Harbor is great for it.
  • Oh yeah, the thing I wanted to respond to. We're going to have to be budget minded unfortunatly. In 30, I will be graduating, honeymooning, moving 2 states away and hoping and praying to find a new job. We have a pretty good stash of savings-more than the standard 6 month fund, but I'm such a worry wart about money. We want to have a great time obviously, but we also have to be responsible about it :/

  • Haha E really. When are you coming so I can tell you what to do?

  • Cool. May is a good time of year. I'm not at home. But I will email you later. My DH will show you a good time.

  • Heh. As long as FI gets to join in! Ok, too far. My brain is fried and its default mode is the gutter. Thanks though, I really appreciate it.

  • What, no fair!  You get Mr USVI?  We got him for two nights and a few minutes here and there.  To be honest, on a budget, you can just stay on St Thomas, rent an apartment, and cook all your meals.  We rented a place for almost nothing for the first few days because we planned on traveling to St John and the BVI, wasn't worth it for a resort.  If we didn't eat out most of the time, it would have been very inexpensive.
  • I imagine I'll only get Mr for a few hours. We've already booked the cruise so we're locked into that. We really wanted to do an AI but with the flight, we just couldn't swing it. We're driving down to Florida so that's saving us quite a bit. We're not doing any excursions hosted by the ship because they way over charge for everything. I know I sound cheap, but we're trying to do as much as we can for what we can comfortably afford. Once he graduates and we both have steady jobs, we plan on doing a do-over honeymoon (are those allowed on here?) to Europe.

  • That isn't being cheap, everything is more through the ship.  We rented a car for $35 in Mexico, through the ship, it would have been $150.  Everything they do is more expensive except for sometimes a five dollar difference for a boat trip.
  • Which cruiseline did you use? We're using Carnival. My parents took me on a Carnival cruise when I was 19 and they're getting ready to take me on a last family vacation through Holland America.

  • I am not the crusing type because I like to pick what we do.  We had an experiment and took Celebrity.  It was nice but not something we would do again.
  • I enjoy both types of vacations. Sometimes its nice to pay everything up front and not have to worry about anything from then on out. I thought it would be nice to take a break after all the wedding craziness and before the big move. The trip to Europe will be quite a bit different though.

  • For a trip to relax and take it easy, it is a good idea.  I just like doing a lot.
