I get why Mom is upset. If you are doing this plan she hates you really shoudl not be taking any of her money to do it. Weddings are about the marriage but they are also one of the few times full families get together other then funerals. Also moms start dreaming of daughters weddings when they are little girls. My mom would have considered it an affront to her and teh family had I done this. You are also by including friends not full family ( aunts uncles cousins) saying taht your family does not matter as much as friends. This may be true but is still a sad thought to most parents
