fi just got me a new printer for my birthday.... if you don't have wireless internet you can't use wifi, right??tia.

I have a wireless router on my DSL line.  The desktop PC is cabled in, but the laptops connect to the internet anywhere in the house.  I need a cable to the printer if I want to print something off the laptop.

If your laptop has an internal wireless card, that means it's capable to use wifi even though you might not have wireless internet at home.

huh?I don't really understand your question. You could have a wireless internal network without access to the internet. So, if you wanted to print from a computer to your new printer without a cable, you could do that without internet access.

If you don't have wireless internet then you won't be able to connect to your computer to the printer wirelessly.  Is that your question?You have to set up a wireless network for it to work.

You could set it up but you still need some way to connect.  You'll have to set up a wireless network between the laptop and the printer.
