Inviting the President?

anyone invite the president? How long does it take to receive something back? I did mine in April.

Re: Inviting the President?

  • I invited Bill, Hillary, and Chelsea (sent the STD) and they left a guestbook post implying they might make it but Chelsea definitely will.I haven't invited the Obamas (I might) but then again, I don't have any kind of relationship with them.

  • I sent mine to the Obamas but they said they couldn't make it.  I'm having an adults only reception, and they couldn't find a sitter.

  • The Obama admin is fabled to send something only AFTER the wedding, as a congratulations.I invited them.  That RSVP took forever to track down, damnit.
  • Umm.. no.  I can't imagine why I would?   The only people invited to my wedding that I didn't know were dates of guests that I did know.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • That is just so silly to me....... do you really think they would come? Or send a gift? And what if they did show but didn't RSVP would they have to eat McDonalds/
  • You don't invite them because you think they'll come, of course they won't.  You invite them because their office sends a lovely letter congratulating you on your marriage.

  • I'm inviting the Obamas sans Malia and Sascha and I'm inviting Adam Carolla and his wife. Stupid I know, but what if he shows????!!!???

  • Yup. At least it's on white house stationery.
  • I wonder how much money is wasted sending out all those type of congratulation notes.  (not just this administration, just in general)

  • There used to be an actual department/office at the white house that's sole job was to send out wedding congratulations, birthday cards, and birth announcement congratulations. I actually think that department is in flux - a lot of brides haven't gotten responses since the new presidency and apparently someone found out it was that the department was being redone (probably because a lot of it was wasting a decent amount of taxpayer money) - don't quote me on it, but I googled the subject till my fingers hurt in hopes of finding out the best way to get a response (yes, I wanted that pre-printed letter damn it) :P
  • Our wedding is less than 5 miles from the white house, the Obamas should be able to make it.
