Seamstress tip?

Do we tip the women altering our dresses? She isn't through a bridal shop she works out of her basement. So far she has been one of the easiest vendors to work with and I actually like her the most so far. Just want to be fair!

Re: Seamstress tip?

  • I've only had to get alterations done once and tipping the seamstress never even crossed my mind.
  • I think the rule of thumb is that you do not need to tip vendors who own their own businesses. If you had a seamstress working on the dresses who worked for someone else who owned the business, maybe. Since she is working out of her basement, I assume she isn't working for anyone else. In that case, whatever you are paying her is probably more than enough.

  • I've heard of girls tipping their seamstresses but I probably won't. I'm wearing a short dress and it's very minimal work she has to do so I don't feel it's necessary.
  • Thanks ladies! I wasn't sure, but didn't want to screw her either. It makes sense that the money we are paying her is going all to her and that's all she really needs. She is getting money from 4 people, so that should be enough. Thanks again!
