Men's attire

So I need some advice, because its been something that has been bugging me.  My FI has decided he and his groomsman will wear white button ups and khaki dress pants (beach wedding).  I have been trying to find something that we like, and that will fit my FI, needs tall size.  Do you ladies think all the guys need to wear the same shirt, same brand?  Can I tell them all to just find the shirt of their choice?  I was already planning that for the pants.  Any thoughts?

Re: Men's attire

  • we had a SJ beach wedding.  DH was in Ivory the guys in brown.  We bought all the guys shirts because we wanted a uniformed look.    We told them to pick out their own light khaki pants.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • the guys woudl normally all dress the same but the groom often wears smething different to stand ut anyway. so it would be perfectly fine if his outfit wasnt exactly the same.
  • Lynda has a great idea if you insist on the same shirt.  J.Crew offers tall sizes as well as regular.
  • FI would like all the guys to wear white button up dress shirts.  FI will wear a flower to make him look different. Do  you think it matter if all the guys shirts are from the same store?
  • yes.  not even sure why.  I mean woman look great in different dresses in the same color.

  • Lynda, where did you get the guys shirts from?  I notice the shirt your husband in wearing in your picture, that is something we are looking for.
  • Tommy Bahama has great beachy button downs for guys...
  • Tommy Bahama tends to be expensive...I did look there, but they were more then I was looking for the guys to spend.  But it def is an option.
  • Yeah they are a little pricey :( Sometimes if you hit the men's sale at Macy's you can get them sorta cheap!
  • Oh they sell Tommy Bahama at Macys?  I didn't know that, I will have to look. How much is it to rent a tux?  I guess I should compare prices of things.  Just showed FI a Tommy bahama shirt for $110, said no too much
  • We did the same as lynda - bought the shirts for the guys so they all match, then let them pick out their own khakis. Try the Tommy Bahama Easy Breezer short sleeved - they're not horribly expensive and come in a lot of colors.

  • I think I might just have to go with Men's Warehouse...so I can get exact sizes.  Not all XLT sizes fit my FI correctly.
  • The tuxes we got at Men's Wearhouse were around $150 before any wedding party discounts.  We didn't get anything special, just regular two-button tuxes with vests, ties, shoes, etc.
  • Sorry beach we lost power last night again so I missed your reply. The guys shirts were Quicksilver. I can't remember if DH's was or not. But I think it was Quicksilver also. He is a 2xl. And they fit him well. Cost was $60 a shirt. All of the guys have worn the shirts again so we did not mind the cost.
