Wedding Etiquette Forum

I hate shopping.

That's a lie really, but I'm lazy and don't feel like trying dresses on at a gajillion different stores.  I need a couple of dresses that would be appropriate for weddings at different times of the year (we have a lot of weddings to go to, so I plan to change around accessories without having to buy 14 dresses).  What are your favorite websites to find dresses (and sweaters actually, I'm in the mood for sweaters) that aren't expensive?  Like preferably under $100, but I'm totally ok with scouring sale sections.  Or just in general where do you like to shop for clothes? What do you like about that particular place/website? So far I've looked at arden b, urban outfitters, nordstrom, macys, overstock, limited, ann taylor, and a couple of others.  I'm still sifting through some of them, but thought I'd see if you guys had any other favorites that I hadn't thought of.

  • I really like Victoria's Secret and Gap dresses.  Ann Taylor, too, but you've already looked there, and of course Banana and J.Crew although they're usually a bit too expensive for me.

  • I like to dig around at Nordstrom Rack. I mostly buy shoes but I've gotten some pretty excellent dresses and sweaters there over the years. Damn, now I want to go.
  • for dresses I like forever 21, express and department stores like norstroms and macys...even dillards.

  • Both my mom & aunt have bought online from Nordstrom because you can return to the store, or have it shipped to store with no shipping charges. My other recommendation would definitely be J.Crew.  Excellent online sales!
  • Check out White House Black Market.  You could find something in their sale section under $100 and their dresses are good for all year round.

  • Thanks! We don't have a Nordstrom Rack in Missouri, I just checked because I had never heard of it before, and now I'm sad :(  But we just got a brand new huge Forever 21, I didn't even think of looking there, and I also forgot about VS, J crew and banana somehow.

  • Sometimes Old Navy has basic dresses that you can easily accessorize. Like Forever 21 not great quality, but if you just wear them for the weddings they should be fine.
  • All my dresses and all my work clothes and every single thing I own that's cute and flattering came from Barbara Moss which was then just B. Moss which was then completely out of business. Then I started working at home and never leaving the house, so I stopped buying clothes, therefore I am useless, but if by some chance there is still a Barbara Moss or B. Moss open near you, it's usually been dead on for me.

  • In addition to all the store named, I also sometimes get lucky at newport-news.com
  • The website is a bit sparse compared to what the stores were like. There definitely is some cute stuff, but you'll have to trust me when I say the stuff in my closet is way cuter. It was the only place I felt I could find real "age appropriate" work clothes for when I worked in an accounting firm - didn't make me look 80, but didn't show off all I've got going on in the bra, either. As for dresses, I've gotten stuff there for weddings, company parties, casual cotton dresses and I think the dress I wore out to dinner the night we got engaged was from there as well. Actually, I know it was, because it was the first time I got to wear it after snatching it up in the store 8 months earlier - it was a going out of business sale, I bought every GD thing they had in my size, some's still got tags on. That's how much I loved that store.Hopefully, the website will equal up to the stores eventually, but I do already have my eye on one of those dresses. You know, Buddy needs to turn away from the computer more and actually speak to me so I can stop rambling on internet forums.

  • I own so many clothing items from Victoria's Secret. I love love their boucle (sp?) sweaters. They have them in so many colors and styles. I own at least six. Also,do an internet search for coupon codes. They let you enter up to 3.
