IUD experience?

Re: IUD experience?

  • If the IUD is so painful to insert, why don't they give the patient some kind of anesthetic? The day before I had mine inserted they had me take some pills to open up my cervix a bit (I don't have children).  When I went in they put some topical lidocaine on my cervix, let that work for a minute, and then gave me 2 shots of a local anesthetic, like novacaine, in my cervix before inserting the IUD.I had severe cramping after having the IUD inserted.  It lasted about 4 days.  The first few hours were really bad and then they started to slowly fade.I had the Mirena IUD inserted 11 days ago.  We went with Mirena because my doctor said it was more likely to help with my severe menstruation cramps.  She said the Paragard would probably make my cramping worse.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010
