using flat bedsheets as tablecloths

I saw this on 2000 budget bride, but Im curious if anyone else has ever pulled this off or seen it,and how it looked?

Re: using flat bedsheets as tablecloths

  • I did this at home once.  We had a new bedsheet, no tablecloth, and I was making thanksgiving dinner for a big group.  I don't think anyone noticed, but even if they did those aren't the type of people to bring it up.

    And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

  • I think it would have to be a really stiff high thread count sheet to pass as a tablecloth.  I don't know though, I've never seen it done before.  I can't imagine anyone would notice.

  • Ditto danieliza...you can find tablecloths for not much more than the cost of a nice bedsheet. Have you checked out linentablecloth.com? They have the best prices I've seen.
  • The only thing I'd be concerned about is the over-hang. Bed sheets aren't square. So you'd have an uneven over-hang...which wouldn't necessarily look bad, but it could (I would notice this), and it might be noticeable.

  • I would think that buying that many matching sheets would cost way more than buying/renting table cloths.  Unless, of course, you already have enough matching or are only using a few tables, then it would be fine - I don't think anyone would notice.
  • WE are using long banquet tables, so the overhang wouldnt be the same as with a round table.  Also, we are having a pretty laid back casual wedding...
  • I don't own flat sheets, but from what I recall, the threading along edges would make it look like a bedsheet, and not traditional table linens.   That being said, I guess you could get away with it.  I didn't take my venue's free linens b/c I thought they looked too much like bedsheets.  But I'm sure other brides have used them.
  • I would probably notice, but as a pp mentioned, I would never mention it to anyone.  Bed sheets are usually thinner (and lighter) than a lot of linens.  Also, someone mentioned the threading as a give away.
