OK, so it's not really wood, it's laminate. We're on a budget damnit.See that beautiful vinyl flooring? It's gotta go, but we can't decide between these two samples. It'll go in the kitchen and the little hallway to get to the basement.Help me.[img]http://laineandpete.com/images/wood.jpg[/img]

I like #2--I tend to like darker wood flooring, plus it seems to match the rest of wood in the other room

#2 for sure.  If you hold your hand over each, the second matches much better.  More depth and variation.

I pick #2. I just always thought that darker floors look better. Maybe not black but #2 is really nice.

Agree with pp- #2 matches the wood in your other room much better, and I do like the variation.  #1 looks too much like one big color.

Ok, so #2 seems to be the consensus. That's the direction we were leaning, but I got all distracted by the grain of #1. Thank you for picking my wood!Night, I'm not waxing my floors in the middle of all the renovations we're doing. That'd be like getting a pedicure before inserting your foot in a wood chipper.

Instead ofgoing with laminate, have you looked into the engineered wood floors?  Just a smidge more in cost, but 1000x better quality.  And it doesnt havee the "hollow" sound that laminate has when you walk on it.

Did you guys consider tile so you wouldn't have to worry about matching it to the other wood? That would stress me out.

aMrs, we're getting an insanely good deal on this laminate, engineered wood would be about five times as expensive. Honestly, we wouldn't even be doing the floor right now if we couldn't get this deal.tlv - We did find some amazing tile (Worldwide Liquidators on Watson, go there is you have any flooring needs) but the installation would be much more complicated so we'd have to either DIY or fork over more $ to our contractors. I'm kind of scared of laying tile myself.

If you're intent on the wood, I'd go with 2 -- it appears to match better and have more visual interest than 1. But I'd really consider tile for the kitchen instead. I doubt you can get a perfect match to the floor that's already there so I wouldn't even try. I also personally wouldn't want that much wood throughout the house -- I like different floorings to delineate different areas and I think wood in a kitchen is really just kind of silly (even if it is laminate). Just another thought...

Gotcha.  The wood floors in our house really need to be redone, but that's just going to have to wait   A puppy is much  more important and a better investment!

I was seriously eying some tile today, I just think we'll probably start off with a smaller project to test our tiling capabilities. You know, when our money tree sprouts again .Have you gone to look at dogs yet?

Wanna send some seedlings for the money tree my way when it sprouts again? ;-) We've also got a new house and lots of plans that are currently on hold. Although DH is amazing at DIY and I'm not bad myself so all we really need are materials for most of it.

#2 will show more dust/scratches, but I love darker hardwood. Even with 5 pets, I would still opt for that!
