Re: What is your job?

  • Nope not Heritage, much smaller.  It's more of a grassroots organization.  Let me know if anyone wants more information! (shamless plug there)

  • I have more energy now than I did in my 20s.  Way more.Doesn't mean I'm having kids now OR in my 40s.  Why ruin a good thing.

  • Also, I like DC quite a bit and would certainly think VA or MD are acceptable places to raise a family. Perhaps people wait ti have children because it's an expensive area.I like Chicago, too. It reminds me of my hometown. But it has the pros and cons of any big city. I live in LA and I would never raise kids here, but clearly a lot of people do. Ditto for NYC, even though FI's best friend is raising his two daughters in Brooklyn.I would love to raise my kids in Boston, which is where FI is from, but it depends entirely on where my job eventually takes me. Thankfully, Boston has a lot of universities and therefore a lot of job prospects for me.

  • Yeah I think outside of the DC areas of VA and MD would be nice.  Like even McLean, VA.  Not sure what the equivalent would be in MD.  I used to live in Chevy Chase and that is way worse than Arlington.  Waaaayyy worse.

  • I am a concierge for new hires/party planner at a major theme park (I work for a mouse)  I like my job and the people I work with although I don't have enough to do at times. I really want to work for a police department in any capacity but no one in my area is hiring and I know I don't really have the education to do that right now.
  • Ok, so I have lurked here for a while but the last two posts are right up my alley so I guess now's as good a time as any to join in! I work full time for a county government in Maryland in the Office of Public Safety. A.K.A slave to the fire and police departments. When I'm not there, I'm an EMT and firefighter at a local department. I love my job even though I biitch about it. :) I go to school as well but I'm not sure exactly what my next step will be career-wise. Bio - Good luck with obtaining your EMT-B. Even if you don't get hired right away you'll pick up some useful skills. Is your area primarily private ambulance or is your EMS system linked with the fire department? Pink - Working with the PD is fun (imo)! Have you looked into any allied agencies? There are a lot of hiring freezes right now but it might be worth a look.
