NWR: Ettakit question...

So we're throwing a party next month- it's sort of an open house/ housewarming party, but I will definitely spread the word that we don't want presents- hopefully my MIL won't tell her whole family we need more stuff; she's a weirdo about presents, as some of you know. The reason we're having one is because EVERYONE we know keeps asking us when we're having one, so we figure we'll invite everyone over, feed them, and send them on their merry way. However, the GL is at about 65 people right now; it'll be a come & go as you please type of affair, so I'm not worried about that many people in my house at once, but I do worry that invites are ridonkulously expensive these days. I would send out an e-vite, but A) I LOVE paper, so I wanted to send actual paper invites, and B) some of my older relatives don't have computers. Would it be bad to e-vite some of my guests and invite the rest via snail-mail? That way, I save on paper but still get to send pretty invites out, but for those that are technologically savvy, I can just shoot them an equally cute e-vite ASAP. My theory: those who get e-vites don't interact with those who would get e-vites anyway, so it's a win-win. Thoughts?

Re: NWR: Ettakit question...

  • WWRD?(that is, what would Ramey do?);)
  • PROBABLY direct me to the e-vite liquor calculator. The question is, what would ffmaid do? WWFFMD
  • Um, I think it's okay.  Although I also think you could come up with paper invites fairly inexpensively.  You could make them yourself or buy a cute kit.

  • I think it's a fine idea - you can even upload a photo of the paper invite you make for your e-vite.As for gifts, maybe just call it an open house, don't even put "housewarming" in there then people won't feel they even have to guess "do I bring a gift or don't I?" If your MIL is gift-grabby on your behalf, suggest she help stock your bar. andplusalso, you can have fische write you up a li'l ditty, she's on a roll.
  • dani, I would SO do that in a split second, but I don't have a printer at home, so my hands are tied. I pretty much have to get them on-line, and the ones I like are about $1.30/ea. I could borrow my mom's printer, like I did for my wedding invites, but I'm pretty sure the ink catridges are still empty from when I returned it. I should probably get on that- I've been meaning to replace those cartridges as a courtesy for six months.
  • You could probably buy a kit at Michael's, then design them, and have them printed at your local Kinko's. I am assuming you have these stores in Georgia.

  • You could always do Vistaprint :)  Get the 100 free postcards and send them in envelopes, so that the info isn't out there for everyone to see.

  • vally, what is this store you speak of? Kinko's? But for realz, I could do that. Maybe. If my crappy laptop doesn't corrupt my thumb drive. I looked at vista print, tide. How can I get them to look like the ones that are $1.30? I know you can upload your own image, but I had trouble finding cute graphics. I guess I could do istockphoto if I had to. I hide the fact that I'm Interwebz illiterate pretty well, don't you think?
  • Tidetravel stole my idea!!  You can use Vistaprint, design them yourself, and only pay to have them shipped.
  • Georgia - shoot me an email w/ the pics of the invites that you like, and I can see if I can come up with something close.  There are a ton of stock images that you can use; last resort, you can upload your own photos. jarmocida at yahoo

  • I want Andrea's elephant and Georgia's piglet. If I had to choose though, I'd take the piglet... Oscar needs a little bro/sis. Seriously, why don't you send out all paper invites? You should be able to find some simple ones that don't cost very much. In the end you'd probably only save $20-50 anyway. Sounds like fun ;)
  • I think that evites for friends and paper invites for family is fine. However I would not send granny an paper invite but aunt sue an evite. Instead group by group. So I would do all family paper and all friends evites. However I would call it an open house party not a housewarming. A housewarming to me implies a gift excpectation and open house party implies come and go as you please no gift or bottle of wine party with lots of little muchies.
  • ffmaid, I'll definitely group them so there's no possible overlap. And Open House it is!!
  • Soooo, I'll expect my e-vite soon?

  • I would e-vite you, moose, but then you'd have my address and might blackmail me. What the heck, it's free!!
  • Hahaha..PS Every time I see the title of this post, it transposes itself in my head to read "eat a cat."So there.

  • Eat a cat. :/ That reminds me of this (disclaimer: I am a cat lover, but I laugh at this everytime I see it; I apologize to those who won't find it hilarious):
  • Dilemma (please note the correct spelling):  I love cats so the dead cat makes me all sad.  But the sign makes me laugh.

  • Georgia- how was St. Augustine? I really want to know since I am asking again.

  • Moose, me too. Dead cat = :( Free cat sign = :) it's an emotional yin-yang. Vally, did you ask already and I missed it? Sorry!! We had a great time, even though it was about a thousand degrees and as humid as the inside of a cloud. We actually did quite a few things, which I'm happy about, because we tend to just sit on the beach. We palyed putt-putt the first night, and ate at a Greek place called Zaharia's. Saturday, we had to watch the stupid GA/TN game, so we went to Oasis for about four hours. After four hours of drinking (me), we went home and took naps, and then we went on a non-ghostly ghost tour of the lighthouse. The tour guide was chock-full of stories of previous sightings and "experiences", but from what I could tell, nobody in our group saw a single thing that was out of the ordinary. After that, we ate dinner at O.C White's and it was very good.  Sunday, we got up and went to the Alligator Farm, which was better than I expected. I couldn't believe there were so many gators just hanging out. There were also a few cute furry things. We then went downtown and took a trolley ride through town, then went over to the beach and had dinner at Sunset Grille, then walked to the end of the pier and back. We then went swimming in the ocean, which I hadn't planned to do. I wore short and a shirt in, because I didn't pack a suit. That was fun for about ten minutes, then I got knocked down by a wave and it was all over.Monday, we toured Flagler College, and it was gorgeous. Then we came home and I had to go to Statistics. What a way to end a vacation!!Sorry, I didn't mean to ramble... or did I?
  • That sounds like such a good time! I asked in the blue ball thread, but no worries. I am persistent :)Swimming in the ocean= very cool, but I'm with you on not liking to get knocked over by waves. The lighthouse also = very cool. Also random fact re: Flagler College... I considered going there when I was a senior in HS. Overall, glad you had fun!

  • I saw that in the blue ball thread after the fact. Oops! My husband stayed out there for a few more minutes, but eventaully a wave got him too. He said it almost knocked his teeth out. That would have been a great vacation story... Flagler was SO pretty! I would have gone there had I known about it! Well, maybe not since it's private and I would have been out of state, but I would still love to go there. It would be such a different experience from a typical college, I think.
  • I think whatever you want to do is fine when it's just a housewarming. I'd probably just make pretty invites and print them myself.
